When Kendrick Lamar said, "if I told you that a flower bloomed in a dark room, would you trust it?"
I never thought I would be the flower.
Few will believe when I say all that I am today, bloomed in dark rooms or under a dark sky with no one but me and my God.
All the late night worship sessions, the Ted talks, the becoming "it girl" videos I would watch at 1 in the morning made me who I am and it all happened in the dark.
Writing is where I run to to be honest about how I feel, sometimes I never really know how I feel until I've written it down. I've found that it is a lot easier for me to write down my truths than it is to say them out loud. But like many, sometimes I get tongue tied or in my case, "finger tied." There times when I feel so much emotions at once, that I do not know what they are and neither do I know how to put it in writing.
I've found that many of my best pieces were written in the dark, at what most would consider "awkward hours" but to me that is the time I feel the most sane, it is only then that I am able to fathom just exactly how I feel and express it.
So despite society regarding it's "it girl" to have it all figured out in the morning well fortunately for me, it all happens in the dark.
Now don't get me wrong, this isn't to say that everyone should have life work for them in the nighttime. Life is a different ball game for every individual. what I found to work for me may not work for others.
But my prayer is that in the end we all find what works. A safe place to express yourself to your full potential and become that "it girl" in your own definition.
