The silence was overwhelming.

The two masked men refused to take their eyes off us, and each time one of them blinked it felt like poison was running up my veins. I'm not one to get scared, I'm usually the support for Sofia in a situation we're in danger, but this time, as glass dug into the back of my thighs I was terrified. I found myself wishing Mickey was here, just because he could say some shitty comment to get my mind away from the chaos that was happening.

Thunder roared, lightning flashed, and the building shook from the force.

"Julianna," Sofia whispered, tilting her head to the side so that the men couldn't see her lips moving, "Did you take that course the senator asked his officials to take? The gun safety one?"

Julianna nodded slowly, a movement so slow that if you weren't looking for it you wouldn't see. Glass crunched in front of us and all of us bristled, shoving our backs so close together the man chuckled. It was a dark laugh, the ones you hear in a movie when the main character has a psychotic break, or in slasher films when the killer knew where the character was going to run. Except this wasn't a movie, this was happening, and all of us were too frazzled to really think of a plan.

"I'm going to tell them I need to call my buyers, if I don't tell them they'll send cops," That wasn't a lie, it was true, "In our safe, there's an extra handgun that the security guard keeps in there, all those places they tell you not to aim in that class," Julianna nodded to Sofia's instructions, and I felt around the interior of our small circle for a large enough piece of glass to slice through the rope. If it meant I cut my palm so be it. "Aim, and don't hesitate. The code is 4219."

"I'm getting your keys," I whispered, feeling the loop dangling out of her back pocket, sliding it onto my pinky, "I'll drive." Sofia nodded, she would have to be looking for Steve's location and Julianna was too careful on the road.

Sofia tried to straighten herself up, a slight tremor to her shoulders gave away her fear, "I need to call my buyers," the men instantly rose their guns up at us and I couldn't help but cower. I always thought I'd know what to do in a situation where my life was in peril, but when it came down to it, all I wanted to do was sob and hide behind someone else. "I know you won't let me get it," Sofia tilted her head towards Julianna, "She won't run, just let her grab it from the safe for me, she can make the call," the men glanced at each other, walking towards us, Sofia latched her pinky with mine, using me as a grounding force when I was floating just as much as she was, we were terrified.

"No funny business," the masked man stated, untying the rope momentarily, only to wrap it around Sofia and me tighter, a cry of pain leaving both of our mouths. Julianna kept her hands raised by her stomach, walking towards the safe. It was so silent, the sound of Julianna twisting the lock echoing in the remaining walls of the warehouse. The storm was raging outside, rain slashing against the opening, dosing millions of dollars worth of product in water. The lock clicked open, the groan of the safe catching mine and Sofia's attention.

Julianna looked over at her shoulder, nodding once. I handed Sofia the piece of glass because she had the better angle. "Hurry up," the man grunted, Julianna quickly turned around and fired the two shots, one hit in the abdomen, sending the man next to me down as Sofia sliced up on the rope, freeing us. The second shot landed in the man's chest, not a kill shot but she definitely punctured a lung.

"Let's go!" Sofia ran towards the doors to the main floor before Julianna and I yanked her back. "What the hell guys?"

"Sofia," I placed my hands on her shoulders, forcing her to look at me, "not a singular member of your staff came down to check on us, we've been here for over thirty minutes," Sofia swallowed, her eyes focusing on me again as the words sunk in, "our best bet is to go around the building to the Jeep."
