"Mickey this is a terrible idea."

He was leading us up a back stairwell to one of the most elusive bars in the city. Apparently, he and the Phantoms come often because it took one text and we were in the backdoor. I felt severely out of place, without Sofia here, the attention was on me and that made me nauseous. But instead of replying, Mickey squeezed my hand, stopping at the platform in front of a black door. The crackling noise from the emergency light added to the panic flooding my chest. My Dad was going to be pissed if he ever found out I was not where I was supposed to be, with a boy. Even if it was the same boy I was supposed to be marrying.

"Elena," I crashed into Mickey's chest when he pulled me forward, "If you are uncomfortable at all we'll leave, but try to have some fun," I swallowed, looking up at him. "I know you don't think so, but I promise you're safe with me. I won't let anything happen to you."

All the years of Christian leaving me to claw my way out of trouble surfaced. And here Mickey was, trying to show me that he wasn't going to let something happen to me. I closed my eyes for a minute, letting out a shakey breath to still my racing heart, and when I blinked up at Mickey he was smiling, watching me intently as I held up my pinky, his eyes flickering between me and my finger. I didn't care if he made fun of me, if he wanted me to step foot in there, he was going to oblige my childlike request. "Pinky promise you won't let anything happen to me."

Mickey didn't hesitate, wrapping his pinky around mine and bringing it up to his lips, "I promise not to let anything happy to you future Mrs. Henry," I glared at him but he grinned playfully, "Now, can you please go have fun?"

He didn't wait to push the door open, loud music filling the once silent stairwell, and I swore my eyes bugged out of my head. It was a rooftop bar in Sunbury, and we were both too underage to be in it, but Mickey stepped confidently into the space, sliding some people some money, and smirked back at me. "You're free to get whatever you'd like to drink Elena," my eyes snapped to his face again, a carefree grin on his face, "I'll be sober for us to get back to Jade Lake in one piece, go," He tilted his head towards the bar, "Have fun. What would Sofia do?"

I expected the question to be a blow to my confidence, but it didn't hurt like I imagined it would. Because Mickey wasn't wielding the question as a weapon, I started to realize that maybe he wasn't looking at me to get to Sofia, Steve had his eyes on my best friend and maybe Mickey decided I was his target because it would be easier to win me over if I could trust him. But even if that was his goal, the question rolled around in my mind, because what would Sofia do? She would want to have fun, and Sofia would throw away all responsibilities. She would realize that she was in a city of people who didn't know, and she would let her real personality shine. So, I took a deep breath, looking down at Mickey who was now sitting on one of the lounge couches, his legs parted where I now stood between his knees, "She would want to have fun, and she would trust Steve or whoever she was with to bring her back unharmed."

"And what are you going to do little lion?"

I cringed at the nickname, but it was a million times better than being called little devil like they called Sofia. "I'm going to have fun," I shook out my shoulders to get rid of the tension, "I have a curfew I have to meet though, promise that you'll get me home so I don't have to be punished by Pa."

Mickey smiled, leaning forward to curl his hands around the back of my bare thighs, the jean shorts suddenly way too short. "Now what kind of fiancé would I be if I didn't get you home safe and sound," He placed a devious smirk on his mouth, and I felt my stomach plummet because a part of me wanted to enjoy this with Mickey. I wanted to fall in love with him, I always had. But I'm scared of handing my heart over to another person, after Christian I didn't trust many people with my heart or my body. He ruined my idea of love, but as Mickey looks at me, with those pretty blue eyes suddenly, being tied to him doesn't sound so bad. "Go have fun."
