Upon getting back to the school, Mercedes was quick to rush into the main building of Parker Academy, seeing some of the students looking distressed. Lizzie parked her car, before she rushed inside after her protector.
The first student she approached was Elias, who was seated on a bench and looking wide eyed. Sebastian stood nearby, looking as though he almost wanted to comfort Elias, but also not really because they were frenemies.
"El, what happened here?" Mercedes asked, looking to the panicked boy. "Kai... he... he killed all of the teachers and then... he fled the school." The Adams managed to stammer, seeming scarred by what he'd seen.
"No... god he is crazy but surely he wouldn't do that..." Mercedes trailed off, though when she turned to Lizzie she was reminded that Kai killed almost his entire family.
Mercedes swallowed thickly before she continued to walk down the hall, reaching a classroom. Her eyes filled with tears quickly after she peered inside at the violent and traumatic sight, before she closed the door.
"Mercy?" Jade asked, as she wandered over to the girl, who looked as though she was going to burst into tears. "This is all my fault." The Ramirez realised, as Lizzie was quick to rush to the hellhound's side.
"I let Kai get away... when I should have let Alaric kill him." Mercedes spoke, her eyes fixed on the other students who looked visibly traumatised.
"No, Mercy... don't do that to yourself." Lizzie insisted, reaching out to take the ravenette's hand but Mercedes didn't let her take it. She didn't feel like she deserved to be comforted.
"Because of me, these teachers won't go home to their families tonight... these victims were somebody's daughter or son, some were even mothers or fathers... and they won't go home to their loved ones because I let a murderous psychopath live." Mercedes continued, tears in her eyes as guilt and anger filled her.
"We can talk about that later." A voice piped up, belonging to Alaric. Dorian and Emma stood behind him. "Dad?" Lizzie blurted, in surprise.
"One of the Salvatore students thought something suspicious was happening here... it seems they were right." The Saltzman sighed, looking around at the state of the student body.
Mercedes stayed quiet, unable to speak. She was stuck inside her own head, hating herself for her actions and hating Kai even more.
"Dad, what do we do?" Lizzie asked, a little reluctantly because she feared her father would try to punish Mercedes.
Alaric met Lizzie's eyes, "We're going to take the Parker students back to the Salvatore school, and contact their families." He explained, as Lizzie and Jade looked over Alaric's shoulder to see Dorian and Emma comforting the students and getting them to collect their things.
