'Is this seat taken?' Mal asks.

Ben looks up, surprised to see her standing next to his seat. It's Monday morning, first period, which means chemistry. Mal's late as per usual.

'Uh, no,' Ben says, sitting up straight.

'Good, cause every seat is already taken,' she tells him, sitting down. 'So, guess we're lab partners again today.'

Evie looks to the back of the classroom, watching the interactions between Mal and Ben. 'I told you I should've saved this seat for Mal,' she tells Jay, a bit frustrated with herself.

'Who knew she was actually going to show up for once at this unbearable hour,' Jay shrugs his shoulders. 'I mean, she wasn't even up when you left this morning, right?'

'She's always been quite unpredictable,' Evie sighs, turning back.

'Anyway, did you do the homework?' Jay asks her, getting his stuff out of his bag.

'Of course,' she answers. 'And you?'

'As a matter of fact, yes,' he says, showing her. Evie looks impressed at his work.

'Since when are you so dedicated to the sciences?' she questions him.

'Since I'm almost getting kicked off the team because of my grades,' he admits.

'It is effective then,' Evie grins.

'If their goal is to cause me to get a depression, then yes, mission succeeded,' he says. 'I don't get how you find this fun.'

'If you're good at it, it is fun,' she tells him.

'Sure,' he rolls his eyes. He looks behind him and sees Ben and Mal in the back of the classroom in their seats, talking like normal. It feels weird to see them like this. Like they'd gone back in time and everything is normal again.

'I'm sorry for not saving you a seat,' Evie apologize when she meets Mal in the hallway after class. 'Thought you weren't coming.'

'It's okay,' she assures her. 'It's perhaps better to just act normal with him. Makes it all a bit easier.'

'Isn't it weird, though?' she wonders.

'I guess,' she says.

'Does he ask about Gianna?' she asks her.

'No, he seems to know not to push it too far,' she tells her.

'He's lucky enough you even talk to him at all,' Evie agrees.

'Right,' Mal says.

'Did you see them in class this morning?' Amelia asks Rachel.

'Of course,' she says. 'Everyone did.'

'They better not get back together,' she stresses. 'I did not go through all that trouble for nothing.'

'Trouble?' Rachel questions.

Amelia looks at her. 'Uh, yeah, I mean... not that I caused it on purpose, but, you know... I finally get my second chance. I don't want it to go wrong again.'

'You think Ben would get back together with you then?' she asks her.

'Well, perhaps one day, when he's finally over that girl,' she tells her. 'But now that they're getting all friendly again...'

'I think them getting back together might just be the last thing that'll happen,' she assures her. 'After what he did... I'd say, just give it some time. He needs time to figure his shit out and move on, and perhaps then he's ready for a new relationship.'
