"Hey, I'm getting a bit hungry! Want to get some food?" Chase yelled over to Jack who was riding next to him. Jack nodded and Chase motioned for them to get off at the next exit.
They were currently riding their motorcycles on an empty highway. After Jack relented to Chase his dilemma with Elsa, Chase thought it best for Jack to clear his head. After an awkward ride to Jack's house to retrieve his bike, they set out for the highway. They hadn't talked much during the ride but Jack felt a whole lot better. Riding his motorcycle reminded him of times with his family. His dad would show him different parts of his motorcycle and what they did and afterwards they'd all go out for ice cream. He smiled a sad smile as they turned onto the exit.
The exit led to a series of chain restaurants and a few small businesses. They decided on Whataburger and pulled into the parking lot. As Jack took off his helmet, he realized this was the same one he went to after his 'date' with Elsa. He tried not to think about it as they walked inside. The first thing he noticed was the lack of people, save the employees. There was a guy sitting at a corner table talking quietly on his phone, taking occasional sips of his coffee. Other than that there were a couple people in the kitchens and the cashier. They walked up to the cashier and Jack couldn't help but stare. It was a girl, their age probably, with fair skin and long, chocolate brown hair. But that wasn't what caught his attention. It was her eyes. They were greener than anything he'd ever seen. The Emerald City? Greener than that. Kermit the Frog? Even brighter green. Trees? They paled in comparison. But it wasn't just one shade of green, there were different ones. It was lighter toward the pupils and got darker as it went out and there was a little bit if hazel on the outer edge. He couldn't stop looking. The only reason he did was because Chase nudged his shoulder.
"Frost," he said with a smug look. "You're staring," he said and Jack startled. The girl was looking down now with a faint blush on her cheeks. Jack quickly snapped out of whatever it was he was in and his blush started to match the girl's. He muttered an apology and quickly ordered his food, avoiding eye contact at all costs. When he was done, he quickly found a seat as far away from the counter as he could and sat down. He looked out the window and silently scolded himself.
When Chase got back, they scarfed down their food and hit the road. Jack tried to avoid talking to Chase because he knew he would poke fun at him. Although Chase was nice enough, there was still something about him that Jack didn't like.
^^^Hiccup POV^^^
Jack didn't show up at lunch and he wasn't on the bus. Hiccup knew it had something to do with Elsa because she didn't talk to him all during lunch and they were best friends. Instead, she stared out the window, deep in thought. He tried not to think about it as he arrived home.
"Hey, dad!" he called as he walked through the front door. Hiccup threw his bag on the floor as he heard a familiar bark and heard scratching on the tile floor. Toothless, his dog, bound up to him and jumped on him. Not expecting it, Hiccup fell over and the dog began mercilessly licking his face. Hiccup laughed and gently pushed his dog away. "Hey there, bud," he said and pet Toothless' ear. He looked down and smiled to himself. "Looks like you dislocated your leg," he said and told Toothless to lay down, which he did. Hiccup began working on his dogs front leg. He expertly fit the metal pieces back to their correct positions and readjusted the straps.
"Ah, there you are, son!" said his dad as he entered the room. He smiled proudly as he watched his son fix his other son. Hiccup glanced at him and smiled before returning to his work. After a few minutes, he was done. Hiccup stood up and dusted off his pants. "Dinner's on the table," his dad said and they went to eat.
After dinner, Hiccup showered and went to his room where he kept all his tinkering supplies. Elsa'a birthday was coming up and he wanted to get her something special, especially since it also marked Merida, Elsa, and Hiccup's 8th year of friendship. He worked until his hands hurt and decided to turn in for the night. Turning off his lamp, he climbed into bed and fell asleep.
