Chapter 3.
Damian gritted his teeth as the bullets whizzed past him in the darkness of the night. He felt a sharp pain in his arm but he ignored it - he knew that if he stopped he'd be dead. He could hear the men chasing him, calling his name, as if they were taunting him.
His assistant had given him a report on the enemies' location. Damian cursed himself for not taking the intel more seriously. He would have been better prepared had he known the enemies were this prepared.
He remembered the report he got from his assistant last week and cursed his luck. The enemy was prepared - they knew he was coming. It was obvious that there was a traitor in his organization.
Damian heard the crunch of footsteps on the forest floor. He composed himself and slowly reached for his gun. The unexpected sound of a gunshot rang out, echoing through the still night air.
Damian felt the bullet ripping through his arm and slamming into side of his stomach. He hissed in pain.
"Fuck! they prepared this ambush." he thought through gritted teeth, not taking his eyes off the enemy.
Suddenly, a bullet grazed his shoulder. He stumbled but quickly managed to regain his footing. He ducked behind a tree, trying to catch his breath. He knew he had to keep going if he wanted to get out of this alive. He took a deep breath and ran further into the forest, hoping that he would find a way out.
His eyes were drooping, and his mind was beginning to fog.
Suddenly, he collided into a thick tree trunk, sending him tumbling into a pile of dry leaves and cold dirt. He rolled onto his back and stared up into the starry sky, a sense of impending doom washing over him. He had no idea how he was going to get out of the forest.
He closed his eyes, letting the darkness become a comfort as he drifted off to sleep, his body succumbing to the exhaustion and pain. He was not aware of it, but the sun had already started to rise, and the forest around him began to stir.
Seraphina's POV
When she followed the noise. She was shocked to see a man lying in a pool of blood surrounded by bullets.
Seraphina gasped and rushed towards him. She could see that he had been shot multiple times, and she feared the worst. Panic and confusion filled her as she tried to assess the situation.
She mustered all her courage and knelt next to the man, feeling her heart pounding in her chest.
