The good thing about being in charge of a villainous empire was that you got to be your own boss. Which meant that you weren't beholden to anyone else's alarm clock or schedule. It was something that Alex was very grateful for when he first began to stir. Waking up slowly, with a long lazy stretch and a yawn, contemplating if he could get away with rolling back over and back into dreamland.

Until he heard the whimper next to him.

Alex shot up, eyes wide and staring. Morgan was still asleep, hands curled into tight fists, panting quickly into their pillow. Alex shuffled closer, trying not to panic. Should he wake them up? He didn't know if waking them up would make it worse, but he didn't want to leave them in another nightmare after all. He reached out to brush a hand through Morgan's hair.

'Morgan?' he said softly. 'It's okay. I'm here. I'm back, and we're safe.' Morgan's face twisted, and they whimpered again. Alex tried to hush them softly, leaning closer to whisper gentle words, fingers still carding through Morgan's hair. He didn't want to shake Morgan awake again, there had to be a better way to deal with this.

Eventually the tension began to bleed out of Morgan's rigid form, their shoulders slumping forward so they were closer to Alex. He didn't stop trying to soothe Morgan, but shifted to watch Morgan's fists uncurl, their face smooth out, and their whimpers go silent. He sighed in relief, planting a gentle kiss on Morgan's temple. 'That's it love,' Alex whispered. 'No more nightmares today, got it?'

Morgan hummed in their sleep, shuffling closer, and Alex took that as an excuse to wrap them up in a gentle embrace. He nuzzled his nose into Morgan's curls, leaving a slow gentle trail of kisses from their temple along their hairline. He brushed the frizzier hairs away from his nose, pressing his lips gently against Morgan's forehead as he did so. Feeling them so close, so relaxed in his arms, he couldn't help but feel a swell of pride.

He didn't notice when Morgan started to stir underneath him. ''Lex?' they murmured.

Alex immediately began to hush Morgan, 'No no no, it's okay, go back to sleep.'

'Why?' they yawned, rubbing the sleep out of their eyes.

Alex began to pout, 'I was trying to see if I could make the bad dreams piss off without waking you.'

That made Morgan open their eyes properly. They looked up at Alex, sleepiness mixing with amusement and affection. 'Were you chasing my nightmares away?' Alex grumbled and pouted more, making Morgan chuckle and nuzzle into Alex's chest. 'You didn't need to do that.'

Alex rolled his eyes, 'I don't need to do a lot of things.'

'You could have just woken me up,' Morgan said, smiling sleepily at Alex.

'I didn't want to,' Alex said. 'You need some actual decent sleep.'

Morgan grinned, 'My hero.'

'Excuse you, how fucking dare.' Morgan laughed at Alex's glare. They reached up to try to kiss Alex but he twisted his head away. 'Nope! You don't deserve to kiss me after that insult!'

Morgan giggled, 'Alex wait-'

'I have never been more offended in all my life!'

'I'm sorry-'

'I don't want to hear it!' Alex shook his head, glaring down at Morgan. 'Nothing you say will make me change my mind.'

Morgan raised an amused eyebrow and leaned up, stealing a peck from Alex before grinning. 'Got it.'

'Hey!' Alex's jaw dropped. Morgan tried to roll away but Alex caught them around the waist, dragging them back to the middle of the bed with a squeal and cackling laughter. 'You can't just steal kisses from me!'
