"I heard everything." Rui repeated.
From the first to the last word, Rui was listening silently.
And after the final word, he stepped into the conversation, scared and uncertain, but still willing to take the step, because he deemed that this moment, no matter what happened, was going to be important to him.
"And I..."
Rui smiled.
"...am okay with it."
"I love you too, Mizuki."
Mizuki could not believe her ears.
Was this a trick? A prank? It had to be.
Then why did it feel so real?
Why did the words echo throughout her head, playing over and over again?
Why was it causing the blush to rise to her cheeks?
If it wasn't real, why did she run to Rui's arms, in tears of mixed joy, confusion, and so many other emotions she couldn't name?
Why did it feel so real?
Because it was real.
And they both felt it from the bottom of their hearts.
Rui laughed and placed his arms around Mizuki, patting her gently on the back.
"Are you okay?"
Mizuki was too stunned by this moment to speak. Her voice was pushed down by her sobs of the strongest emotions she ever felt.
Relief, joy, ecstasy, love.
Grief, pain, impatience, anger.
Confusion above all.
But did that matter?
All that mattered now was that she was in Rui's arms.
All that mattered now was that she was in the arms of her lover.
All that mattered now was that their love was mutual and real.
All that mattered now was him.
"I love you, Rui."
"I love you too, Mizuki."
Rui lifted her chin up to look at him and he gave her a small peck on the lips.
"I think it's safe to say we're a (real) couple now, right?"
Mizuki smiled and nodded. "I'm pretty sure it is."
y/n and Toya came from each side, y/n with her hands on the back of her neck and Toya's in his pockets.
