Immortality

Ina POV:

They think I'm special. A miracle, lucky to be the last to receive the gift. They say it will change my life forever.

Gotta say, I have to agree with the last part.

Almost 17 years ago:

When I was just one, they inserted the serum. It wasn't a needle, antibiotic, medicine of any sort, ... it was a gooey liquid, in a tiny bottle the size of my pinky finger.

My infant self downed it, thirsty for something sweet and tasty. And it was; the perfect combination of sweet and tangy, and my soul fed on it, wanting more after the last drop dissolved on my tongue.

The woman with the freckles and ash brown hair smiled at me kindly, taking the bottle away from my tiny newborn hands. I cry, the way children do when they have something they want taken away, when it was just in their grasp.

I felt my head swell with a migraine that only made me cry even harder, because babies aren't used to the pain in their head; they think the world is perfect.

The smiley woman takes out a gun with a cord attached to it... no, it's not a gun, it's a tattoo gun.

Not knowing what it is, I stare in wonder, my tears drying up a little, but when the ink bleeding tip tears into my skin, they quickly come back and my crying and wailing start again. The hot ink sears through my skin, leaving an imprint I carry with me forever.

Not knowing that there were others being "blessed" like me somewhere out there. They tried to keep us all apart.

But we found a way.

Back to now:

Dean tries to keep up with my shenanigans, but he'll never be able to guess what's going through my brain most of the time. It works that way with everyone.

Dr. Black was a scientist and chemist, working for famous labs and organizations all across the world. She spent most of her time experimenting on her own, coming up with all sorts of projects that she thought could change the world. And as promised, they did.

There were five of us experiments. Five infants, lab rats all the same.

Test subject #1: Heyden Copper. He got the least dangerous and least amount of power out of all of us. He was the first test subject, and maybe the weakest. He is magnetized to the earth, almost like he's an electromagnet. He can turn on the gravitation when he needs to, and it's like he can uplift chunks of the earth or grow plant as quick as his fingers flick. And his other ability (That he thinks is stupid, and it's not) is to think of a memory or image in his mind, and make an illusion of it in front or around himself, kind of like in a movie theatre when the projector is casting the image onto the big screen.

Dr. Black called him an earther and a projector. She wanted to make a whole colony of us; give all of the humans supernatural powers. Anyone would have wanted that, wouldn't they? You would think that until everybody knew about the abilities.

Test subject #2: Liana Coal. Dr. Black called her the Animali, Conjurer, and her Fader. She has the ability to fade invisible (Fader trait), talk to animals (Animali), and conjure an object at her free will (Conjurer). Kind of like how Heyden can do with the earth, but more like conjure it, not gravitate it. All very basic "Superhero" stereotype kind of abilities, but nevertheless, powerful. Heyden and Liana found each other first, and have been good friends ever since.

Test subject #3: Dean Farren. My good friend actually, and Dr. Black used to call him the Brawner, Leviter, and Flamer. Inhumanly strong, gravity defying, and can summon fire out of thin air. So yes, he can fly, I know everyone was thinking it, and I wanted to answer before I got a billion people wondering the same thing. Dean is... well, cocky. Full of it, as one would say. Just really confident, and he's a big showoff, but he's fun to be around, so he's not obnoxious. It's just a trait. He and Liana have known each other for almost eight years now, when I introduced them after I had met her and Heyden. Heyden and him are chill, but him and Liana? Yeah, they're sworn mortal enemies, hate each other. They're both full of it.

Test subject #4: Greigh Coal. Maybe the opposite of Dean; he's smiley, sarcastic, and doesn't brag as much. A Veigner, Aqualer, and Teleporter. You can probably do the guessing by now. He can feel and read peoples thoughts and feelings (Veigner), manipulate water (Aqualer), and teleport (I don't even have to; the names were not original beyond this.). He's good looking, and doesn't actually know it though, which is kind of the thing. He's oblivious, even when he can read minds. But he can't read ours; they're far too complex with the serum complying in our blood. I always hope that it will be like a vaccine and wear out,... it never does.

Test subject #5: Me. (Vel)ina Ambrose. I was named after my mother, but I hate her, so I go by Ina(One day I'll change the legal papers.). I was paired with the most dangerous set of powers. The "imp ability"; to not have to train to gain the fullest of my abilities. The healer. And the touchless fighter. For example; it's like I can reach my arm out, not even touch you, make a grabbing motion, and turn my hand, like I'm snapping your neck. And it really does. I can move my arm to punch you, and be punching air, when it's really gutting your stomach, and you bend over in pain. Or make a gun shape with my hand like I'm firing it, and even when it's not really a gun, it will make a bleeding wound where I aim for you, almost as if the gun was invisible. And that paired with the Imp ability makes me close to invincible.

But the big gift that was given to us...all five of us are immortal and can teleport to find each other as well; there's never a chance of death or being split apart.

The teleporting only works to find each other, but I've noticed that I can seem to pop up anywhere, unlike my fellow lab rats.

Being immortal doesn't mean we can't feel pain; we can get hurt, or be mentally damaged, or be paralyzed, or you could even chop off our heads, but we could never die. We would still be in the state of pain, but never be able to end it off. We are immortal.

Yet, somehow, I want more than that. And I know the others do too.

~Sorry for the confusing publishing change; I realized that I didn't add in the important detail about teleporting and Liana's conjuring ability that would explain a lot of gaps in the story if I didn't add that in.

Thank you so much if you've even read this far; it means so much to me that people will actually click on this and start reading, and I promise to update all the time!~

Bye for now! - Kayna 💛💛💛(/≧▽≦)/
