Vek POV:
Dean and Liana (was it?) look completely terrified, and I feel accomplished knowing that I've entered the scene with an entrance. They won't forget this one.
Allow me to introduce myself; Vek(ner) Hirokawa.
My entire life I've spent between Japan and North America. It was revolved around my music; I had a band that was called bloody Vengeance. We were awesome; I played drums, and we had a base player, lead guitar, and a lead vocalist. It was awesome.
Until my best friend, Mara, our lead vocalist, got a life threatening lung disease, and couldn't sing anymore. She had a sort of charisma that kept our band alive. Without her, we crumpled apart.
She was finally starting to look better, and her doctors said they would soon give us the okay for her to return to us.
Mara died last spring before she could return.
Her lungs collapsed in the night. I hated the world after that; I was so mad that she was the one who didn't make it. As they say, the good die young. She was meant to live longer, live happier than that. I didn't get an invite to her funeral; her parents blamed our band for making their daughter 'pressured' and 'unhappy'. I know for a fact that she was happy. She was happier than ever when she was onstage, singing her heart out, no matter how short it made her life in the end, no matter how much pain she was in.
I haven't reached out to the others in a long time, we grew up and apart after that. It happens when you go through grief, I guess. I moved to Japan again to try and get over the loss; that's when I fell in love with books. It's also when the car crash happened.
I was crossing the busy city streets, when out of nowhere, a car hit me. Bam, head on. The driver rushed out to check on me, sure that I was going to need serious medical attention, but...
Not a scratch. Not a single stitch needed, and I found it odd too, because the impact knocked me off of my feet, and it still hurt like heck. But no broken bones, not even a sprained ankle. Nada.
Later, in more trains of events, I found a note in my room saying that I was injected with a serum, and I was suddenly immortal. Um, I was like, excuse me? You're kidding right? Like this is a joke, I'm not stupid, FBI, just arrest me already if you're gonna do it, come on, but nope. This was legit. No FBI, no nothing. So, I did the only reasonable thing. Test it.
I hit my head with a hammer (this was not self abuse, this was an experiment; I'm the type of person who says their intrusive thoughts out loud... deal with it), sure it would concuss me, nope. Not even brain bleeding.
It was ecstatic, in the moment, and I knew exactly who had gave me these abilities. But as I got older, I learned that these abilities were actually a pain in the arse, seriously. Like, are you kidding me, I can't use my super speed to win a track meet? Or I can't slow down time to give my enemies super painful wedgies? I gotta keep it secret? Why!?
But after a while, I started using them more and more, secretly cheating at life. I know it's wrong, but seriously, gimme a break here, this is ridiculous.
So, that's how I figured out I was immortal and could also re-birth myself into our current state. Like a Phoenix. So, yeah. Fun abilities I got. That was sarcasm.
I also figured after a while that I wasn't getting any older appearance wise. Seriously, my voice was growing lower (puberty, come on, don't ew, we all get it), but my height never growing. And my face's structure the same, my hair always the same length. ALWAYS.
So. This only happened after I became 20 though (yesss I'm older than these other dweebs who stopped growing at 19, 18, and 16!!!), so I am moderately older. I'm not that tall; 5'9. But that Heyden; I feel bad for him because he'll stay 5'4 forever (I think he's 16), he's immortal. His appearance will literally never change.
Dean is 19, Liana is 17 (I think? Maybe 18?), and her brother is too, and the girl with the dark hair is probably 18. I think. I'm pretty good at telling ages, usually.
A knock sound at the door and we all go quiet. Liana conjures her life threatening frying pan again and turns to me.
"Are you working with anyone?"
"No. I have no idea who that is." I shrug, amused, but still ready for whoever comes through that door.
"Dean? Liana?" Heyden's voice calls. "Your find my friends app on our phone says you two are both in there."
We don't reply for a moment, Liana and Dean having a silent mouthing argument.
"Are you two decent?" He laughs, referring to an inside joke that I don't understand.
"Gosh, yes, hold on." Liana's face starts blossoming red, and Dean smirks.
"Why wouldn't we be?" He opens the door, and Heyden, Ina, and Greigh stare at me.
"What's he doing here?" Greigh asks cautiously.
"He's one of us." Dean turns to me in a 'show them' expression.
Once again, I make a show, and Greigh grins broadly.
"Welcome to the team," He shakes my hand, "Vek, was it?"
