I Think We Lost

Liana POV:

"Holy-" huff puff "Craps-" huff puff "DO THESE GUYS EVER GET TIRED?!"

We're fighting the enemies off with combat, while they have weapons and guns, and bombs, and a freaking force field that keeps our powers from working, and all this other junk. I roll up my sleeves and give this meaty guy holding a machine gun a good strike in the back of the head, and he collapses to the ground. Wow, I guess I hit a weak spot.

Heyden, who is still wheezing because of his asthma (Ever the Hufflepuff with his lactose intolerance too), dashes over to me.

"Lianaaaaaaa...ghhhaackk..." He hacks and coughs, trying to rid of the horrid respiratory wheezing. "How long until Ina and D-" More coughing and wheezing.

"I don't- oof- know!" I duck a mini bomb. "Stay strong, Heyden!" I push him back, away from the fight, because this is chaos. Why would any person in their right mind decide to fight it out? If I were the Turners, I would've assassinated us in our sleep by now.

A loud gunshot sounds, along with the loud bellowing voice, "Break it up!" 

The Turners are walking across the field towards us, holding Ina and Dean out two feet in front of them, with a gun to their heads.

A moan of agony comes from to the left of the field, where we were just fighting, and I see Heyden dashing through the kicked up dirt cloud to see Vek, clutching the left side of his stomach.

I want my feet to move. I want to jump into action. I want to save Vek. But I know that the thing stopping me, the thing keeping me rooted in place to watch, is the knowing that he's not going to live through a shot like that.

It hurts me. Because I can't save him. Neither can Heyden. No one here can. It's too late, even if we call the ambulance, he'll pass. There's no way he could live. He'll die just as his father did.

And there's no option 2. No possible way. In the million ways this could have played out, the odds were not in Vek's favor.

I think we lost.
