In Another Life

Heyden POV:

I almost hate him.

"Don't die." I hold Vek's hand. "Please don't die. I'm sorry I kept secrets. I'm going to put it as simple as possible; you're the first person I liked so damn much, and... I didn't want to ruin it."

"It's not fine," Vek strains out. "But I'm glad I met you. In another life, I think we would have ended up together."

Ina, getting the hint, walks away and back to the Coal twins.

"Come find me," Vek's eyes overflow with tears, pain because of the bullet, and the situation. "When I get reborn. Come explain what happened to me. Force me to remember."

"This isn't fair." I hold back the tears.

"Maybe it is, though. I think I'll go and meet my dad up there. Or maybe not. But no matter what happens next, Heyden,... I forgive you." Vek smiles, tears shining across his face.

"Thank you, Vek." The heartache hurts indescribably. "Not just for your forgiveness, but for everything you've given me. You made me happy in a new way. I will come and find you, Vek. And when I do, I'll remind you of everything."

"Don't leave out the killing my mom part, we don't want a repeat of this," He laughs.

"Alright." I smile, and notice he's starting to fade away. "I really liked you."

"I was starting to fall for you, you know." He gives me one last mischievous grin before his eyes flutter shut, and his chest falls for the last time.

"I hope you meet your dad up there." I whisper, my jaw trembling.

Ina's hand rubs my back in soft circles, I let a tear slip loose. I quickly wipe it away though; this isn't the end. I'll find him again.

Someday, I'll find you again, Vek.

Someday.
