The next day, Onika came over for the king. "Onika, you know, I haven't been outside in weeks. What's it like?"
She looked over at Zephon, wide mouthed from disbelief, and he nodded.
She turned back towards the king. "The skies are blue, the flowers are beautiful, and the breeze is soothing and warm."
The king smiled. "I'd love to see it."
Zephon grinned at her. "Picnic?"
The king smiled widely. "That sounds like a wonderful idea."
Zephon helped him up off the bed and got him into his wheelchair. Onika grabbed the book from the bedside table and a basket. They wheeled the king into the kitchen as Onika got the food and lead him outside.
The king shaded his eyes as the sun hit his eyes, he chuckled. "My Lord is beautiful today."
She smiled. "Did I not tell you?"
When they set everything up under a willow tree, she pointed out the book she picked up and asked the king about it. "What's the whole gist?"
"The book belonged to my father... It's about an orphan going on adventures with his best friend. It's called The Loyal Affliction. In fact, I told Zephon the name a few days ago but I didn't tell him what it's about."
He nodded, remembering dinner Tuesday night when he asked him about the book but he was too absorbed in it to reply.
She clasped her hands together. "Can I read some more chapters?"
He smiled. "Of course."
The king and Zephon sipped their lemonade in silence as Onika started reading Chapter six. He saw a cup blowing away in the wind. "I'll be right back," he rushed after the cup and disappears behind a tree. He puzzled over where in the world it could have gone because the cup was nowhere in sight. He saw chestnut hair blowing in long ringlets from the wind and he groans.
Adell turned around and saw her ringlets disheveled. She was still wearing her blue dress. He noticed how her eyes were red and her nose was running. Tear stains covered her cheeks. She sniffles and wiped her nose with her palm. She pushed him to the ground.
"What the! Stop it, Ad-" then she kissed him and he pushes her off of him.
"Adell... Don't do this." She pouted as he groaned. "Do you remember the name Onika?"
She swallowed hard. "Yes."
He sighed. "I'm on a picnic with her and my father."
She frowned. "Oh. What are they doing now?"
"Onika is reading to my father now."
She smiled sarcastically. "How sweet of her."
"I need to get back to them and I need my cup back. Please don't kiss me again. You're an amazing person but Onika is the only one for me."
She frowned, giving him the cup back. "Okay."
He started walking away, shaking his head in annoyance. Onika and his father, laughing together, he smiled. His father beamed up at him. "Onika got to chapter seven."
He smiled back. "That's great."
His father bit his thumb. "Now where, well, what was taking you so long?"
She looked up at him, expectantly with a grin, her happiness obvious. He shook his head nervously. "I-uh, you know. I told you guys that I was going to get the cup.
Worry swam in Onika's eyes but she forced a smile back up at him.
That night, Zephon was airing with his father quietly. "Onika really is a great young woman," the king said breaking the silence.
He nodded. "Yeah. She is."
The king placed his hand on Zephon's knee and said silently. "Now, are you going to tell me what really happened today at the picnic?"
He closed his eyes. "Adell kissed me."
His father sighed. "And what did you do?"
He swallowed and bit his lip. "I told her that she can't do that because I love Onika." They sat together in silence.
A/N: again, this is unedited. this story is almost over! I started writing this book when I was twelve and finished it when I was thirteen and now, I'm converting all of the words from a notebook onto Wattpad so it takes a while to type it all. Another thing: I do this all on my iPhone so it's much harder than sitting at a desk with your laptop.
