While making a list in my head of what I can do with the money, I put the envelope in my drawer and went into the bathroom to get ready for work. I honestly wasn't up for going with everything that's been going on from the creepy dude at work and Kate suddenly leaving has stressed me out.
As I'm taking a shower, I think about the fact that I just lost my best friend because of a guy. I will never understand why Kate reacted that way, but it is what it is. I wonder what Ryder is going to say when I tell him I basically kicked her out because of the relationship I have with him.
I could look for another roommate, but why should I? Hell, I need a place all to myself and this is the perfect opportunity to do so. Once I finished showering, I put on a pair of black skinny jeans and a basic t-shirt. I didn't feel like wearing anything fancy tonight and to top it off, I only put mascara on, and French braided my hair.
The closer my shift got, the more I didn't want to go. I would give anything to just lay on the couch and watch a movie. Sighing, I get in my car and head to work, ignoring the growling that's coming from my stomach. Kate wasn't around to make healthy food, but I'm sure I can manage.
I try to fake a smile and act like I'm happy the whole night but deep down, all I wanted was for one o'clock to come and so I also could see Ryder again. After spending all morning with him, I've become attracted to him but again, I'd fuck it up if I let emotions get in the way.
Halfway through my shift, one of our loyal customers sits down on a stool and smiles at me. "Hi Henry."
"Hello, Tally. How have you been? You seem stressed tonight." Henry has come in here for years and he's by far one of the nicest men in the area.
"I've just had a rough day. I'm just ready to go home."
"I understand. Well, when you're ready to go, I'll walk you out. I heard what happened last night. Gotta keep you safe, young lady."
"Thank you, Henry. I really appreciate that. Your wife sure is lucky." I finally smiled for the first time all night thanks to this guy.
"Eh, I think I'm the lucky one. She became the most important person in my life once my first wife died. She really helped me through the grieving process."
"I hope I can find someone like you someday."
"Oh, Tally. You're a kind young lady and any man would be crazy not to like you."
"I'm heading out, Henry."
He nodded. "Of course. I'll walk you out."
Once I got in my car, I drove home in a daze, specifically thinking about Ryder. I wanted to see him right now. A part of me missed Jess, but what she said earlier really hurt my feelings. I never liked you anyways. Never did I ever expect her to say that.
I texted Ryder the second I got in the door, wondering if he was still awake or not. As I got changed into sweatpants and a t-shirt, I heard my phone ring. "Hello?"
"Hey, babe. How was work?"
"Rough to say the least."
"Why?" I could detect the concern in his voice.
"I just didn't want to be there. When I got home this morning, Kate told me she was moving out."
"Wow, I'm sorry. Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'll be fine. I'm surprised you're up this late."
"I was waiting for you to get out, sweetheart. Of course, I stayed up."
"Well, thank you."
"Do you want some company?"
"Y-yes."
"Text me the address and I'll be there in thirty minutes."
After I hung up and texted him the address, I went to the refrigerator for a bottle of wine and took two glasses out of the cupboard. Maybe alcohol will help reduce my stress and pain.
I wondered if this was the type of relationship that girls had with their sugar daddies. The feeling of excitement to see them again, or was this more than what I expected it to be?
I heard a knock on the door, interrupting my thoughts. When I open it, Ryder is standing in front of me looking quite handsome as always. Even in a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt makes him look hot as hell.
"Hi."
"Hey." He smiled and followed me inside. "This reminds me of my first apartment before I went to college."
"Really?"
"Yes, except mine wasn't as tidy as yours."
"Thank you for coming."
He smiled and shut the door before leaning down to lightly kiss me. "Anything for you, Tally."
I love the way my name comes out of his mouth. This man is so perfect and he's all mine.
