I look upon a princess named Psyche, the target of my mother's revenge.

She is beautiful, I can admit, but I've never had a problem finding women attractive.

Standing at a distance I watch as she makes conversation with some of the other humans along the street, her voice sweet like honey and her eyes sparkling like diamonds.

Her smile lights up the world around her, and my heart begins to race.

What is happening to me?

Why does she have this effect on me?

She isn't even aware of how enchanting she is, and yet all I want to do is reach out and pull her into my arms.

I want to kiss those pretty lips of hers so badly, but I can't.

This is just a job.

As I continue to watch her, suddenly someone touches my shoulder.

Startled, I turn to see that my brother, Himeros, stands next to me, smirking.

"So you like her, huh?" He asks, looking back towards Psyche.

"W...what? No! Why would I-" I stammer, trying to deny what he is implying.

He shakes his head, chuckling lightly.

"You really are hopeless, bro." He states, walking away before I can even reply.

I look back once more, seeing that our mother, Aphrodite, has spotted me.

She is calling for me, telling me to come home.

It is only then that I realize how late I must've been.

As I begin to walk home, I try to ignore the pounding in my chest.

The next day

I head out early, confident that today I will be able to complete my mission.

However, when I lay eyes upon Psyche once more, I see that I am wrong.

The same thing happens every morning.

I pull an arrow out of my quiver, and draw my bow.

However, I always lower it.

I watch as she smiles at whoever she is talking to, her face lighting up like a thousand suns, and I know I won't be able to fire.

This goes on for three days.

On the third day, I decide that enough is enough.

I stand where I always do, my bow and arrow ready.

However before I can shoot, my brother shows up once again, placing his hand on my shoulder.

"Are you gonna tell me why you can't shoot her? Or should I call for mother and ask her?" He questions, a knowing glint in his eye.

I clench my jaw.

"I don't have time to explain myself to you." I attempt to brush him off, but he holds fast.

"Then maybe you shouldn't be doing your job in the first place!" He retorts.

I open my mouth to yell something back, but before I can, mother appears.

Her long blonde curls are swept off to one side, and her milky white skin contrasts with her dark red dress, making her look ethereal.

She smiles at both of us.

"Oh, my boys! What are you doing out here? Is there something wrong?" She asks gently.
