Chapter 1: Why?!
Larry Plumber was preparing for his job while his wife Debbie was accompanying their son Jordan to college. Larry was amazed that Jordan was already going to college, as it seemed like only yesterday that he had started kindergarten. Both Larry and Debbie were proud of their children, with Jordan pursuing a career in writing and their older daughter Kate already achieving success as a doctor. Although Larry was a high school teacher, he did not teach at the same school as his children.
Larry was an excellent educator who was adored by all of his pupils. He was deeply invested in their success and would create study materials to aid them in their studies. Many students have successfully completed his course. Larry also assisted his own children and their friends with their academic pursuits. Kate and Jack Cooper were close friends who attended high school together. Although Larry had hoped that Jack would become his son-in-law, Kate and Jack remained just friends. Larry had planned a night out with his male friends and had contacted his wife about it.
"I am going to spend the night in Seattle after dropping off Jordan at college," Debbie informed Larry.
"I will be home tomorrow," Debbie added.
"I miss you and I cannot wait until you get home," Larry replied.
"I miss you too and cannot wait until I get home. Please do not leave a mess in the house after your guy's night!" Debbie laughed.
"I will clean up whatever mess the guys and I made before you get home," Larry assures Debbie.
After talking to Debbie, Larry got ready for the guys to come over.
Larry decided to order takeout as he lacked cooking skills. Additionally, his friends were also planning to bring some food over for their football game gathering. Jack was accompanied by his friend Martin Stewart, whose brother Alan Stewart was renowned for assisting the police in solving numerous murder cases. However, Alan was currently occupied with a case in England. As Larry was seeing his guests off, a police car arrived at his driveway, prompting Jack to stay and investigate the situation.
A police officer walks up to Larry and Jack. "I am looking for Larry Plumber," the police officer requested.
"I am Larry Plumber. What is going on?" Larry asks
. "My name is Officer Jackson Randall. The Seattle police called us to inform us that your wife and son were shot during a robbery at a gas station. I am sorry Sir, but your wife is dead. Your son is badly injured," Jackson explained.
Larry fell to his knees and he started crying. Jack and Jackson assisted him in entering the house.
"Have the Seattle police caught the killer yet?" Jack asks.
"They did not tell me, but I do not think they did," Jackson replied.
After Jackson left, Jack immediately called the doctor to come over and check on Larry. The doctor gave Larry something to help him sleep, and Jack breathed a sigh of relief. He knew that it was going to be a long night. He decided to call Kate and tell her what had happened to her mom and brother. Kate was understandably worried and rushed over as soon as she could.
"How is my dad doing?" Kate asked, looking concerned.
"He's not doing well. The doctor had to give him something to help him sleep," Jack explained, trying to keep his voice steady.
Kate's face fell. "Does the Seattle police know who killed my mother?" she asked.
"I don't know yet, but I'm sure we'll find out when we go to Seattle," Jack replied.
"Thank you for staying with my dad until I arrived. You're a good friend," Kate said, grateful for Jack's help.
