Chapter 2: Shock
The next day, Larry, Kate, and Jack went to Seattle. When they arrived in Seattle they rushed to the hospital. Detective Jason Anderson was already at the hospital when they arrived.
"Hello, I am Detective Jason Anderson. I am really sorry for your loss," Jason replied.
"Have you caught the person who killed my mom?" Kate asks.
"No, but we are going to do our best to apprehend the killer," Jason assures Kate and Larry.
"What happened?" Kate asks.
"A man wearing a ski mask walk into the gas station where your mom and brother were present. The man demanded the money from the safe. The store clerk did not know the combination to the safe, which made the robber angry. The robber shot your mother, your brother, and the clerk. The robber was about to shoot the store clerk again when the police arrived, causing the robber to become scared and flee," Jason explained.
"How is the clerk doing?" Larry asks.
"He was badly injured, but the doctor said he will recover," Jason explained.
"How is my brother doing?" Kate asks.
"I do not know. The doctor is still working on him," Jason explained.
"What is the clerk's name," Larry asks.
"His name is Jerry Conway. Jerry's mother is here too," Jason replied.
"I would like to meet her," Larry requested.
"Linda, this is Larry Plumber and his daughter Kate," Jason introduced them to Linda.
"I am deeply sorry for the loss of your wife. Your wife saved my son's life," Linda replied.
"What do you mean?" Larry asks.
"My son told me that the robber had shot him first. The robber was about to shoot him again, but your wife got in the way. She took the second bullet for my son. Your wife was a very brave woman," Linda explained.
"My wife always had a heart of gold," Larry replied.
"How is your son?" Linda asked.
"I do not know," Larry replied.
The doctor walked into the waiting room.
"Hello, Mr. Plumber, I am Dr. Drew Gray. Your son is badly injured. Your son has been shot in the head. Your son is fortunate to have survived. We have your son on a ventilator because he is unable to breathe on his own. We do not know if your son is going to make it," Drew explained.
"Can I see my son?" Larry asks.
"Yes, you can," Drew agrees.
Larry and Kate went to see Jordan. Larry saw Jordan connected to all of these plugs. Larry tried to remain strong, but it was difficult.
Kate was crying uncontrollably. Larry embraces his daughter. Larry became even angrier when he saw the condition his son was in. Larry had already lost his wife, and he couldn't bear to lose his son as well. Larry went to the waiting room to get some coffee and noticed that Linda was crying.
"Why are you crying?" Larry asked.
"The doctor just told me that my son needs leg surgery." If he does not undergo surgery, he will lose his leg. The insurance will not cover the cost of his surgery. I cannot afford to pay for the surgery," Linda cried.
"Do not worry. I will pay for the surgery," Larry offered.
"You do not have to pay for my son's surgery." My son feels terrible about what happened to your wife and son," Linda replied.
"I do not blame your son for what happened to my wife and son. I blame the man who shot them," Larry replied.
"Thank you. You are a good man. I wish my ex-husband were more like you," Linda replied.
"Where is your ex-husband? Does he know that his son is in the hospital?" Larry asked.
"He doesn't care. My ex-husband left me for another woman. He has a family with that woman. Jerry was ten years old when his father left. My ex-husband has never been involved in our son's life," Linda replied.
