Chapter 10: Unsolved Murder

Grady

Grady and Alex were analyzing the pictures of the crime scene where Alex's father was killed. Alex was clueless about the possible motive behind his father's murder. Since childhood, Alex had no communication with his mother, Penny, who left him and his brother Adam after their father's death to be with another man. Alex had no interest in reconnecting with his mother. After their father's demise, Alex and Adam were taken care of by their uncle, who never approved of Penny as he believed his brother deserved someone better.

Alex believes that his mother is not responsible for his father's death, but Grady wants to conduct an investigation on Penny. Alex consents to Grady's request to investigate his mother. Additionally, Alex reveals that his father had extramarital affairs, and his mother was also involved in such activities. Victor had Penny sign a prenuptial agreement to prevent her from receiving any of his money, which will only go to his children. Alex is tired of looking at the pictures and decides to team up with Grady to locate his father's lovers and investigate them.

The next day, Grady went to speak with Sam Lake, Victor's business partner. Victor and Sam were best friends. Sam was working on his computer when he saw Grady walking into his office.

"Grady, I am delighted to see you again. I haven't seen you since you were a kid. Are you still working as a lawyer?" Sam asks.

"No, I am a private investigator and a writer. I am having a hard time finding work as a lawyer. I am investigating the death of Victor Dashwood. "I don't think Victor committed suicide," Grady replied.

"I never thought that Victor had committed suicide either. I thought his ex-wife might have killed him. What can I do for you?" Sam asks.

"I know that Victor had affairs with other women while he was married to Penny. Do you know any of Victor's lovers," Grady asks.

"No, I did not and I did not want to know. I did not approve of what Victor was doing. I don't like his wife, but I don't think it's right for Victor to socialize with other women while he was married. I thought he should get a divorce," Sam replied.

"Why didn't you like Victor's wife?" Grady asks.

"I knew that Penny did not love Victor. She only married Victor for his money. She did not even love her children. I do know that Victor went to Seattle. I suspect that Victor has been seeing a lover there. He was also going to Mississippi," Sam explained.

"Was Victor having problems with anyone?" Grady asks.

"Everyone that knew Victor liked him." Victor might have made mistakes, but he was a good person. He never treated anyone poorly and never believed he was superior to anyone. "Grady, you knew what kind of person Victor was," Sam questions.

"Victor was a great boss and friend. Do you know where Penny lived?" Grady asks.

"No, Penny moved after Victor's death. Penny did not tell anyone where she was moving to," Sam replied.

"Why do you think Penny killed Victor?" Penny was not going to get any money," Grady questioned.

"Penny tried to obtain custody of Alex and Adam, but Victor's brother was granted custody of the boys. "Penny believed that gaining custody of the boys would entitle her to Victor's money. However, Victor had arranged for Alex and Adam to receive the money only when they turn 25," Sam explained.
