"Alright Yumiko, this is our last hurrah before graduation," Yukako sighed, smoothing down her hair in the hallway mirror, adjusting her jewellery and the straps on her dress, making sure everything looked perfect, "you better have a good time."
"I'll have a good time when I want to," Yumiko said, rolling her eyes.
"Just get in there and dance!" Yukako chuckled before pushing Yumiko into the large ballroom, rented out for the prom.
Music pounded off the walls as teens danced and flocked the snack tables.
Almost immediately, Yumiko found herself lost, Yukako had run off to find Koichi which left Yumiko to weave through the crowd.
She jumped as someone grabbed her arm and pulled her away from the people, her fist hitting their chest before she could get a good look at them.
"Okuyasu? What the hell?!" Yumiko exclaimed jokingly, "nice tux!" She chuckled, aimlessly smoothing down the fabric of Okuyasu's jacket, the front decorated with two large and ornate shrimp.
"Thanks," Okuyasu chuckled, "there's someone I think could use some womanly company right now," he added, showing Yumiko outside, where Josuke leaned against the balcony railing.
"You know him better than me, you should talk to him," Yumiko replied, trying to push Okuyasu onto the balcony.
"Yu, trust me, it's you he needs right now," Okuyasu said, pushing Yumiko onto the balcony instead, quickly shutting the doors behind her.
"Hey Josuke," Yumiko sighed, walking towards the railing and leaning beside Josuke.
"Oh, hey, how's the prom so far?" Josuke asked.
"Lonely," Yumiko chuckled, "what are you doing out here?"
"Raiding the snack table with Okuyasu isn't as fun as it seems," Josuke replied.
"Huh, he's the one that sent me out here," Yumiko replied, looking out over Morioh as music slipped out through the doors, "you like this song, don't you? Purple Rain?"
Josuke chuckled and nodded his head, "yeah, one of my favourites…" he sighed.
Yumiko stood straight and turned to Josuke, holding out her hand to him, "then why don't we dance?"
"What?" Josuke asked, amusement dancing in his voice as he looked at Yumiko, "you want to dance? With me?"
"Yeah," Yumiko replied, grabbing his hand and pulling him with her to the middle of the balcony, placing his hands around her waist before draping her arms around his neck.
They swayed to the music, Yumiko smiling softly up at Josuke.
"You look really nice tonight," Yumiko said, looking at Josuke's tuxedo jacket.
"Thanks, that's what I was going for," Josuke chuckled.
"And your mom had nothing to do with that?" Yumiko teased.
"All me," Josuke replied, "you look amazing, like really amazing."
"Everybody says that but I find it hard to believe," Yumiko chuckled.
She looked up at Josuke with a raised eyebrow as he stopped moving, opening her mouth to speak but instead she inhaled sharply as his lips met hers.
His hands raised from her waist to gently cradle her jaw for only a moment.
Only for a moment, their lips touched, entangled with each other before he let go and broke away.
"What the hell was that?" Yumiko mumbled to herself, stunned.
