Draco stood in the doorway and just stared. THIS, was his common room? The place was so warm and inviting... different shades of red and gold everywhere instead of his expected silver and green he was hoping for... the floor was hardwood instead of the cold stone he was expecting... there was a flag hanging above the stone fireplace with an old-fashioned lion on it instead of the anticipated snake... the window seat let in a warm sunny glow of the sun, instead of the cold bottom of the Black Lake he'd been told about... but the very worst part of it all... there was no Harry... Draco dreaded the moment his father heard about this...

"Oi! Malfoy! Move it, wouldjya?"

The blond boy turned to see the freckled redhead glaring at him... what was his problem? Then he noticed the crowd of first years eagerly waiting to go in... oh, right... he was still in the doorway

"Sorry" he mumbled under his breath before squishing himself to the side of the door, allowing all the other students to go in first. Draco watched in amazement as everyone went about their way, chatter quickly picking up as the common room was still filled with the eager young first-years

"Now then, boys dormitories are to your left, girl's to your right. All your stuff is already upstairs, you'll know your room when you find it"

Draco gulped as he went to step fully into the common room, when he suddenly felt a shoulder roughly nudge him out of the way. He had just turned to lecture whoever had the nerv- his jaw dropped as he watched Granger happily skipping into the common room, look all around in complete awe, and then skip up the stairs to the girls dorms. Draco sighed. He still wasn't sure how she could do that. he had thought that only Purebloods could fake-it-till-you-make-it like that.

Draco waited until the common room had cleared out before he finally moved from the doorway, feeling forced to accept the given outcome.

Making his way up the stairs, he heard the increasing to decreasing loud, happy chattering of fellow boys as he passed the many doors in the hall, searching all the crossed-out listed names at each dorm until he finally found his. Of course, he'd be put into the loudest room of the whole lot... "guessIcankissstudyinggoodbye" he mumbled to himself. He sighed in disappointment as he watched the name be magically scribbled out, his father can never hear about this. He gulped, opened the door and-

"OI! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!"

No. no nononono. This can NOT be happening... "you have GOT to be kidding me"

"Hey, you're Malfoy, right?" the boy holding his toad asked

"Draco, actually" he replied sheepishly as the three redheads, two brunettes and a blackette just stared at him "there's, uh, two of us, so... yeah, Draco is fine"

"But isn't the other Malfoy in Slytherin?" one of the older redheads asked with a quirked eyebrow

"Don'tremindme" Draco mumbled while avoiding eye contact with any of them "I'm not even supposed to be here... I'm a Malfoy... all Malfoys are supposed to be Slytherin"

"Well... I guess there's a first time for everything" The other older- were they twins too?!

"I guess we shouldn't be surprised you'd want us to use your given name... especially if you're not an only child. Names George, this here is Fred"

"Fred here, that's George, MY twin, and the little grump over there is Ron, our wittle bwodure" Fred teased

"I'mnotlittle" Ron grumbled from his bed with folded arms

"Anyway, there's lots of us" Fred continued

"We also have three older brothers and one baby sister" George picked up
