RENEE
Later on during the night, Maddy, Claudia, and I were sitting by the bonfire, talking about the new shops and stands that had opened up recently.
"Clauds, you have to put yourself out there, at some point," Maddy said before taking a sip out of her cup.
"I'm okay, just as I am, women don't need men in their lives like that all the time," she replied, "I'm a very strong and independent single woman, thank you very much."
"You are indeed," said a voice. Elijah. I'm honestly not sure, but ever since we were little I've thought that Claudia and Elijah were meant to. Sure, they bicker from time to time. But you can practically smell the chemistry wafting from the two of them.
"Collins," Claudia addressed, nodding.
"Adler, it's great to see you again!" This was Sam, who came, smiling and running to give me a hug.
Sam has always been Cape Cod's golden retriever. Always smiling and he was a playboy type of person. But he was genuine, which was my most favorite aspect.
"It's great to see you again too," I replied, equally smiling and returning his hug.
I then noticed how Maddy was looking behind Sam and Elijah. And the answer to that question was because of who was behind them. James, he stood there. Now wearing a shirt. A deep blue button up paired with a white beach bottom shorts.
What a sight, I thought.
Snap out of it Reneé! You can't be with anyone, and you know it. I told myself, continuously.
"Come back for another summer, Jamie?" Claudia said, jokingly, "Knew you loved us."
"One can keep dreaming," he replied, smiling, and with a deep, beautiful British accent. I know what Maddy was talking about now.
"This is my very good friend, Renee," Claudia said, introducing me. "Renee, this is James, an annoying pain from England," she said in a fake British accent. And that actually made me laugh. "We only keep him 'cause he's loaded,"she then whispered loudly.
I don't know what it was because I barely know the guy. But something about those brown eyes just made my heart do summersaults.
"Greetings," he said as he sat down beside Sam and Elijah. Directly in front of me.
"Hello," I replied, with a close lip smile.
The rest of the night was filled with me doing a lot of catching up, but also laughter. It was also filled with me trying not to look in his direction.
But when I did look at James, and he caught my gaze, he looked as if he could see right through me.
This James was going to be something else.
