RENEE

We were now seated in a booth at a beautiful cafe. And I'm serious when I say this cafe was the epitome of beauty. The sun showed through the windows and the place smelled of the Blue Sky Breeze scented candle from Bath & Body Works.

This must've opened in the last year because I'd never been here and never noticed it in all my years here at the beach.

But all I had to say is that this was one of my new favorite places.

We seated at a 4-seat table by the windows. My mother was on my right, Mrs. Davenport was seated in front of my mother, and James was seated in front of me.

I felt like I couldn't breathe. And you'd think the opposite since we were seating by the window for goodness sake. I had to be better than this. And I had to ignore James, or at least try to, because it would be the best for everyone.

No one needed to come into my bubble. And no one would.

It would be hard to ignore him, given that I was sitting directly across from him. Why do I find myself in these situations, I thought.

"So Renee, how long have you been coming here?" Mrs. Davenport said drawing me from my thoughts.

"For as long as I can remember," I reply, "I was practically born and raised here," I say smiling widely.

Mrs. Davenport opened her mouth to reply, but just then the server appeared, asking, "Hi! My name is Sarah and I will be serving you guys today," she said sweetly, smiling at each and every one of us, and when her gaze lingered on James and something about that unsettled me, "What may I get for you all today?" she then said starting with our mothers.

"A Latte and your chocolate cupcake," Mrs. Davenport said with elegance. In fact, everything this woman does is with elegance. Her posture, her movements, and her clothing. Absolute perfection. Lucky.

"The same thing except with black coffee please," my Mother says when the server moved on to her.

"Okay," she said writing their orders down, "And for you?" she asked me.

"Just water and a blueberry muffin," I said.

"Same," James said when Sarah moved to him.

"Great, I will be right back with your orders," she said, and she grinned as she patted James' shoulders and walked towards the kitchen.

And all I did was narrow my eyes in her direction.

"You okay?" James then asked.

My face softened as I said, "Yeah, why would you ask?"

"Well your face went all funny," he said smiling.

"Oh," I said feeling my cheeks heat.

"No need to be embarrassed sweetheart, it's all good."

He honestly needs to stop saying things like that. The more he does the more off and flustered I feel, and I cannot feel like that.

I sighed deeply, "Where did they say met again?" I asked James noticing how lively my Mother's conversation was.

"Somewhere in Boston, I'm honestly not sure," he said, "that's where you're from right?"

"For honesty, yes," I say, smiling, "But I like to think I'm from here."

"Do you?"

"Yeah, I do."

"Huh," he says as if he was deep in thought, "Renee, the girl from the bay."

"And how about you," I ask teasingly, "which part of Great Britain are you from."

"London," he says.

"Fancy," I say chuckling, "And I guess you're 'James, our British sunshine boy.'"

"Sunshine boy?" he laughs.

"Well yeah, you just give sunshiney vibes."

"I'm that type of guy huh," he says leaning back in his seat.

"Yeah, that type of guy," I say gazing up at him. And his eyes had never looked prettier, or more handsome, I don't know, his eyes were just good-looking.

"Here we are!" Sarah said, gaining my attention, she began placing our orders down as she kept saying, "For you.."

And for the rest of the time we spent there, I tried and failed to ignore James. I'll avoid him, tomorrow, no big deal.

Do you ever question why you ever became friends with someone, or why you're still friends with those friends? Well, that's how I'm currently feeling.

THE GIRL'S

MADDS: Spill the tea! You can't just tell us about your hot date and not elaborate.

RENEE: For the last time, it was not a "hot date"

MADDS: That's not what it sounded like

CLAUDS: Just give her a break

RENEE: Thank you, it was a brunch with our Mothers if that tells you something

MADDS: Mothers or not, I'm feeling this whole James thing

CLAUDS: Aren't you supposed to be against this?

CLAUDS: Or did you just forget about last summer...

She has a very good point.

MADDS: Well that's in the past, my dear

MADDS: MaddyJames is over, and now it's time for ReneeJames

CLAUDS: You actually freak me out

RENEE: Lmao, never ever going to happen Madds

MADDS: We'll see about that right now I'm the number one ReneeJames shipper

CLAUDS: They just met

MADDS: Don't you know souls are just attracted to each other like that

CLAUDS: You've officially become crazy

RENEE: Whatever I'm going to bed now

CLAUDS: Night, and just ignore her

MADDS: Goodnight my beautiful Ren-Ren

With that, I plug my phone up and set it on my nightstand. And as I lay in bed I can't help but think of what Maddy had said earlier, Souls are just attracted to each other like that.
