RENEE

Maddy excelled in all the senses of fashion, lively stuff, and all. She was your sunshine and all smiles type of girl. So, as Claudia and I sat on my bed listening to music, Maddy stressed over picking my outfit for the bonfire tonight.

Apparently I needed to flaunt all I've got, Maddy had told me earlier. Because the shorts and oversized t-shirt I'd picked wouldn't do, she also told me.

"Okay, the shorts can stay, but the shirt needs to go," she said with a contemplative look on her face.

It was almost comical how serious she was taking this. But I guess that's something I might never understand.

We... well I guess Maddy had finally settled on me wearing a pair of white denim shorts and a light blue cropped aligned tank top. My curly brown hair was braided and strewn over my shoulder. And she paired everything up with jewelry and white Birkenstocks.

She truly was a mastermind of the sense of fashion, because if I was so honest with myself. I looked remarkable.

Claudia and Maddy of course, looked amazing themselves too.

The part of the beach where the Bonfire was hosted was beautiful if I must say so myself. Well, I mean the beach is always beautiful. But, it had been a while. And it was almost like it was my first time, here, at the beach again.

And it was truly magical.

People. They were everywhere. People were laughing, people were smiling. People were drinking. Surfing. Swimming. Playing Volleyball.

Okay, it seems like it has been a while since I've been out. But I don't know how I feel in this particular moment, but I missed it.

And I miss the sense of running around and not feeling like I'm carrying such a burden. Carrying my very heavy heart, that just wants to speak it mind out, and not care for what others might say or do in contrast to that.

Honestly, people can be scary. I mean you never know how they'll hurt you next.

Dragging me from my thoughts was when I laid my eyes on two boys. One Sam, and the other I'm not so sure who, but he's the one that caught my interest the most; he was  a tall, wavy brown haired boy, coming out of the water with his surfboard in hand. Shirtless. He was lean and he had the most beautiful abs I'd ever seen, and his smile? Absolutely mesmerizing. This boy had tanned skin, and in that moment, all my thoughts had honestly stopped.

When he caught my eye, tilted his head to the left, and looked me up and down, in a pleased manner. His big brown eyes made contact with mine and I just stood there and stared. Which was probably rude, but I couldn't take my eyes off him. When I say he was beautiful, I mean he was beautiful.

It finally clicked to me how stupid I must've looked, so I quickly turned my head away in the opposite direction of this mysterious surfer guy. And I instantly felt my cheeks heat.

I quickly shaked my head to clear my thoughts, when Claudia said, "Now officially, welcome back to Cape Cod Bay!"

"Different. But I certainly missed it," I replied.

That's when Maddy groaned. "Why does he have to look so hot?"

"Who?" I asked, puzzled.

"Who else would she be acting like this for, James Callum Davenport of course." Claudia said, laughing.

"I mean, I know that's over with and I am over him." Maddy said thoughtfully.

"I'm still so confused, where is he?" I asked. And when Claudia pointed out who this mysterious James was, it was the surfing brown-haired boy from earlier.
