I didn't see Alex for a week after that, which really sucked but work was keeping me extremely busy. As difficult as it was to be a secretary it was just a lot of work. But I did get ridiculously excited when my phone rang the next Saturday, but when I answered it, it was just my mum.

"Yello?" I answered

"Hello sweetheart!" my mum's voice came

"Oh hey mum" I sighed

"Don't get too excited to hear from me" she laughed

"Sorry, mum" I smiled weakly "I was just expecting a call, how are you?"

"Oooh, who from?" she asked, she was always trying to set me up with boys, I didn't want to have to tell her I might of actually met someone.

"Just my friend Cassadee" I lied "we were meant to meet up today"

"Oh okay, well I'm doing just fine honey, the weather here has actually been lovely the last few days, going off to a barbeque today with the Smith's from two streets down, they're son just graduated..." she babbled on for about 5 minutes uninterrupted, I listened intently, growing more and more homesick with everything she sad - I honestly felt like crying as images of my hometown popped into my head.

"So, how's it out there in sunny Tennessee?"

"I'm starting to really love it" I said honestly

"That's great, you been making friends alright?" she asked sternly

"Yes mum" I smiled, I was so happy that I could answer that with honesty for once, I'd been lying every single time she called.

"Is dad home?" I asked, biting at my pen lid.

"No, sorry sweetie, he's working late tonight" she sighed, my heart sank. I hadn't spoken to him in a couple weeks, he'd been working so damn hard recently.

"Oh" I said "Well, tell him I say hi"

"I will do, now I won't keep you busy if you're expecting a call" she said

"Okay, I'll call you soon mum" I said

"Okay honey, I love you" she said

"Love you too mum" I smiled as the line went dead. I chuckled my phone on to the chair opposite me, tears pricking in my eyes. I missed home so much but I knew I couldn't go back. At least not now. I was torn from my thoughts by my ringtone erupting into the silence of my flat. I reached over with a sigh, it tugged into a smile when I saw Alex's name flashing on my screen.

"Hello?" I answered, leaning my phone between my cheek and shoulder.

"Heeeey Taaaayloooorr" Alex sang down the phone, I just giggled.

"Hi Alex" I replied

"How have you been?" he asked

"Stressed" I replied "I've had so much work"

"Same" he sighed "but listen the guys are recording some stuff today and apparently don't need me, do you wanna come over and hang out maybe?"

"That sounds great, I really need a break" I sighed as the memories slowly ebbed away and the idea of new ones came through "I'll be over in 10?"

"Okay, take your time it's fine" he said softly, I hung up and threw the phone on to my bed, trying not to panic. What. The. Fuck. Was. I. Going. To Wear. I mean I had way too many clothes, fashion was pretty much the thing I love most in this world - apart from my parents and music. It took me nearly 15 minutes to actually choose what I was going to wear. I eventually settled on a crop top as it was another scorcher of a day, a long skirt which split to show some leg. I sighed, looking myself up and down in the mirror before giving up and just heading over to Alex's. I grabbed my tasseled leather bag and walked out to my truck, I really couldn't be bothered walking. I took a second to collect myself before pushing the doorbell. It only took Alex about 10 seconds to come to the door. He was wearing his usual long jeans and tank top - looking fine as ever. He grinned at me and I could feel my cheeks heating up already.
