It had to be at least a month until I saw Alex again. He always joked that it had to be fate that we met again. He was always kinda sappy that way. I'd not been very busy, I'd sent my brother's guitar off and he'd called me on his birthday and gushed about how much he'd liked it, I'm so glad he did. So, I'm getting on with my life, answering calls 4 days a week, making meetings and planning some snooty guys day. Full-filling, I know, but at least it paid the bills.
It was my day off today anyway, and I was sitting in Starbucks with my co-worker Sarah. She was the definition of cute, she was the same height as me - short - but we were built in totally different ways. She was curvy and her hair fell in long, dark brown ringlets, her only drawback was her voice. She spoke in a squeaky way that went right through you and with the thickest southern drawl I'd ever heard. But she was nice and tended to babble on, I was never great at conversation so just nodding and saying "mhm" every now and then worked for her. She was the closest thing I had to a friend here.
"Taylor?" she asked, snapping her fingers in front of my face.
"Sorry?" I asked, she smiled, flashing perfect teeth.
"Nothing" she giggled "you just totally zoned out and they called your order"
"Oh" I mumbled getting up from our table to go get my iced coffee. I was already sweating my ass off as it was another sweltering day. I sat back down opposite her as she continued to chat away about some guy she'd gone to have drinks with the other day from the mail room and he'd been really rude. I listened most of the time. The thing with Sarah is she got off track half way through a story and told another one. It was when I tuned out that I heard it, that great little chuckle that I knew. My ears pricked and I looked across the store to see Alex. He'd just laughed at something the girl he was standing with said. I felt a pang of jealousy, sue me. It was weird seeing him again. He looked different. I guess it was the lack of sunglasses and snapbacks I could actually see his hair and eyes. Which didn't help my situation. I had a thing for brown eyes.
"Taylor?" Sarah said, I snapped my head back round. My cheeks flushing from being caught staring "what are you looking at?" she asked leaning over the table
"Nothing" I mumbled, looking down at my cup. She leant completely over the table and saw where I was looking.
"Are you staring at that guy?" she smirked
"No!" I lied
"You so are" she giggled "Do you know him?"
"Not really" I sighed, giving in to her gossipy ways "I met him once in a guitar store and failed at flirting with him"
"He's cute" she smiled "Do you think he's dating that girl?"
I looked back over to him, and sighed, the girl he was with was totally gorgeous "I don't know" I mumbled. He looked over then and met my eyes and I mentally cursed.
"Taylor?" he smiled. Blushing furiously and standing up, I replied-
"Hi, Alex" I said as he walked over, the girl following him looking a little confused
"Nice to see you again" he smiled "How have you been? Did your brother like the guitar?"
"I've been good, thanks and yeah he loved it" I replied, the girl he was with cleared her throat a little
"Right sorry" Alex chuckled "Uh, Taylor this is my friend Cassadee, Cass this is Taylor, we met a few weeks back" I could of sworn he tried to put emphasis on the word friend.
"Nice to meet you, Taylor" she smiled, holding her hand out to me. I smiled at her and shook it, she seemed really nice. Dammit.
"Taylor, I'm sorry but we really need to go" Sarah interrupted, I turned to look at her. Her face said sorry but her eyes said you're welcome. I turned to Alex who's expression had changed. I suddenly caught on to her ploy and tried not to smirk.
