After a seemingly magical night, I had to make good on my promise and return to Ena. "Ena's waiting for me, I have to return." I said before getting up and stretching. Toya looked to the side. "I see, you're girlfriend from earlier is staying the night at your place, and you left her to come here..?" He said almost out of spite. "Dude you make it sound horrible!" I retaliated, before realizing his wording. Did he just call Ena my... Girlfriend..? I wanted to puke. I started bursting out laughing, to his surprise. "Did I say something funny..?" He asked, innocently unaware."Ena is my sister dude, that's gross...and besides I don't swing that way..!" I said trying to catch my breath. He looked surprised. "Wait what..? What do you mean by that.?" He asked curiously. "Like how you 'don't swing that way'?" He clarified, making me blush. It seemed that he was still that of a sheltered kid. "Uhm... I guess it means I don't like... Girls in a romantic way.." I tried explain.. Toya seemed confused by this idea. "But aren't you a guy yourself.. Is that even possible for you to like someone of the same gender...?" Aww the poor baby, he had never had the chance to be educated on the unknown.. I smiled and started to walk away. "I think you'll understand it soon enough..." I said hoping it was truth.
As I returned home I saw Ena sleeping on the floor, awaiting my return. I picked her up and placed her on her bed in her room. I tucked her in and kissed her on the forehead. "Sorry I left you.."I felt guilty. "You kept your promise... Thank you.." I smiled. "Goodnight, Ena, you could stand to worry a little less." I said before leaving to go sleep in the stiffest bed in the world and tuck myself in.
The next day Ena let me go to school without her walking me. "I trust you.. Now go out there and chase the boy of your dreams!" She teased before I ran out of the house. "Yeah, yeah! Cya later!" She smiled. She was finally able to be confident that I'd be coming back to her. She was tearing up a bit. "Yeah, cya later.."
As I walked onto the school's grounds, I saw Toya, Kohane and An, however An looked angry. The others didn't seem to notice. I felt comfortable enough to walk over to them, maybe we can renew our friendship. Toya was happy to see me, Kohane gripped on to him in an attempt to cower, and An crossed her arms. "Guys it's okay, he's nothing like people say he is, we just need to give him a chance." Toya said, not pleasing An. "You're right, we should give him a chance..!" Kohane exclaimed with an understanding smile. An looked defeated at Kohane's smile.
I smiled, "Someone's jealous." An was taken aback my the accuracy of my statement. Kohane and Toya seemed to be surprised by my words. "Says you, it's almost like I couldn't notice your staring from a mile away." An wasn't in the mood for playful banter, it seemed that she was genuinely upset. "Akito, Toya... Can I talk to you guys.. Alone.. After school is over..?" An whispered, not wanting Kohane to feel left out. Kohane smiled. "You guys really do get along well..! An who knows he might be the one for you..!" She playfully hinted at An, completely misreading the situation.
An looked uncomfortable at Kohane's touch. "Y-yeah.." An said flustered, but not because of Kohane's comment, rather the sudden physical contact from Kohane. I looked at Toya, as he knew I didn't like girls like that. He shrugged, he probably thought An liked me. He is hopelessly dumb, it's cute though. Though it is intriguing that An wants to speak with us alone... I wonder what that's about.
That question kept reoccurring throughout the day, until finally school was out for the day. Me Toya and An met up behind the back alley of the School's main entrance. "Okay so your facade is up! I know what you're doing now, you jerk!" An pulls out her phone and plays a video she recorded of Toya talking about how he doesn't like Kohane romantically. "I happened to be strolling the streets before overhearing this gem.." Toya's face was hard to read, however you could tell he was feeling ashamed.
"Hey if you heard the conversation, then you should be able to understand that he had no other choice but to date her!" I said trying to stick up for him. "Listen, I don't know anything about your family situation or your daddy issues, but that doesn't change the fact that Kohane is a person with real emotions and feelings! You even acknowledged this yourself, you knew what you were doing! If I didn't know better I'd say you're just like your father!" An said, going too far.
I am not one to get violent, let alone with women, however after seeing the expression on Toya's face made me clench me fist. I started to walk toward An. "Why yo-" "Stop!!" A soft voice yelled. Kohane ran in-between me and An "Please, An, there is really no need for this!" Kohane cried. She had tears streaming down her face. "But Kohane they-" An tried to reason with her, "I already knew! I don't need your help in my relationships!" Kohane said causing An to stumble backwards.
I couldn't believe my ears, and it seemed that Toya couldn't believe his either. "Fine! I get it.. Go on and let him break your heart! Have fun living in a lie! And when you want to finally be free from all of that, if that ever happens, don't come looking for me..!" An said, her voice breaking. "Just go! I don't care what you do!" Kohane said falling to the ground, as An fled the scene.
Toya put his hand on her back. "I.. I knew you didn't like me... I just wanted to continue to stay by your side.. An was right.." Kohane said sobbing, as Toya rubbed her back. "Now I've lost my best friend, and it's all my fault!" Kohane said hugging Toya. Toya remained silent, he wanted to apologize, but he knew that Kohane didn't want to hear him say sorry, and she wanted to hear that he loved her, and he couldn't lie to her anymore. So, he said nothing.
"If you really don't want this to be the end of things, then run after her." I said causing them both to look at me. "Despite my aggravation with her, she had her heart in the right place. If she ever meant anything to you at all, Kohane, then you should go chase her. Reach her before it's too late." I said extending my hand out to Toya. "Toya isn't going to play pretend with you anymore, so it's time you face reality. Toya also extended his hand toward Kohane.
"Though I hate it, you're right, Akito." Kohane said while knocking Toya's hand away. "I'm sorry my prince, maybe this life wasn't meant for us.. I really do love you though." She said helping herself up. Toya's face broke my heart. "I'm through with living a lie..." Kohane said before running to catch up to An. I hoped that things worked out for them.
