I awoke to my alarm this time. I sat upright, glared at the opened curtain and sighed. Another day of school. I stood up from my bed, dreary eyed, and went over to my closet. I pulled out a casual purple hoodie from my closet and placed it gently on my bed.
It wasn't in the best shape, a few tears and holes, but it meant a great deal to me. It was the hoodie my father had when he was my age. His father had it too.It was like an heirloom to me. The only thing that changed was the color. My father's was red, and his father's was a darker red. Red just isn't a pretty color to me.
After I laid the hoodie on the bed, I grabbed the rest of my school clothes and changed. I admired myself in the mirror that hung from my door and smiled. The perfect outfit to blend in. I grabbed my bag, opened the door, and went over to the kitchen table.
Toshiro was sitting down already, eating what looked like a granola bar. I sat down across from him and a small cup of coffee appeared in my hand. I took a sip of it and placed it down. He seemed to be in deep thought about something, but I didn't bother to ask what it was.
"We should head out now. We'll be late if we don't." He nodded at my statement and stood up. He pulled his bag over his shoulder and started walking towards the front door. I followed his example and pulled my bag over my shoulder as well.
Once we were outside, I locked the door and nodded at Toshiro. We began to make our way to school, which was kinda far. I pulled my keys out of my pocket and pushed a button on one of them. A car pulled up to the driveway, a small one, maximum five people.
I hopped in the driver's seat and he hopped in the passenger seat. I started the car and we started backing out of the driveway. It wasn't a calm drive, quite the opposite actually. The road was full of traffic, the sound of people angrily honking their horns towards the people ahead of them.
I knew this was going to happen, which is why I came prepared. There is a little button on the dashboard, blinking red. I tapped that and the car magically 'disappeared'. Anyone outside wouldn't be able to see the car, but everyone inside would still be able to see everything that was outside. I made it myself, it was some sort of cloaking device for situations like this.
The car had sprouted these metal wings on the roof and took off into the sky. A few minutes later, we arrived at the school. After we landed in a parking spot, the car turned visible again. I turned the engine off and he got out of the passenger side. I got out of the driver's side and we started walking towards the entrance.
As we got inside, all the girls started crowding around Toshiro. Did I forget to mention that he was kind of popular? The girls were pushing each other, trying to see him up close. I rolled my eyes and started walking to my class.
I walked in the doorway of my math class, walked over to my desk and sat down. I set my bag on the floor under the desk, opened it and placed my math binder on the desk. I then closed the bag and waited for class to start.
As soon as class started, the teacher called on me to answer one of the questions. I answered it right and she moved on. A student behind me was preparing to launch a pencil at me. Of course, I felt it coming towards me so I moved my head slightly to the side and the pencil hit the teacher.
The student who threw the pencil started laughing, so hard in fact, he almost fell over. The teacher angrily pointed towards the doorway and told the student and I to leave. I shrugged, packed up all my stuff and walked out the door. The student did the same.
"Why do you feel the need to keep doing this?" I asked him, placing my fingers over my eyes.
"It brings me joy," he replied, throwing another pencil into the air. "Why do you keep dodging?"
"I have phenomenal reflexes. Do that one more time and you will be carried out of here in an ambulance."
The look on his face was priceless. He just stared at me in shock, thinking that I was bluffing. In a moment's notice, his arm flew out of its socket and landed on the floor, a few feet away from where he was standing. He only blinked before collapsing to the floor. I was standing there, in complete shock, staring at the blood pouring continuously out of his torn socket.
Five minutes later, paramedics arrived. The kid was immediately rushed to the hospital, I was brought in to the police station for questioning. Toshiro was with me the whole time, trying to comfort me as I just stared blankly at the wall in front of me, my hands on my lap, no facial expression whatsoever.
A police officer walked in, then closed the door behind him. He put a folder on the table and looked at us.
"I just need her, not you.You may leave." He said to Toshiro.
"She stays, I stay." He said, continuing to comfort me. The officer just rolled his eyes and sat down. He opened the folder and leaned backwards into his chair.
"You were the only witness. What did you see?" His voice felt like a dagger, driving into my ears.
"..." I couldn't speak, as if something had my tongue. I tugged on Toshiro's sleeve, motioning towards my backpack. He seemed to understand.
"Can we take something out of her backpack? It's very important." He asked the officer.
"Hurry up. None of us have all day."
Toshiro opened my backpack and pulled out my translation book and my notebook. He closed the backpack right after handing me the books, along with a pen. I opened the notebook and began writing something in Japanese. It was a good thing Toshiro was with me, because this was the Japanese from our world.
When I finished, I handed the notebook to Toshiro. He looked through it and his eyes opened wide. He coughed and closed the notebook.
"She says she didn't see anything. There was no sound, just red." He took a moment to breathe, then handed the notebook back to me. I took it and put it back into my bag. The officer wasn't convinced in the slightest.
"May I see the notebook?" he asked, raising an eyebrow in suspicion.
"You wouldn't be able to read it, it's in Japanese."
I felt a pounding in my head. Without thinking, I stood up, grabbed my bag and dashed out of the station.
