After a couple minutes of talking and walking, we wound up at the apartment. To my surprise, Toshiro was already there.
"Well look who it is. You didn't tell me he was here, Jessi." Toshiro said, standing in the doorway to the kitchen.
"Sorry, it surprised me too. How did you get the police off our backs so fast?"
"I borrowed one of your mind erase potions. I hope you don't mind." He gave me this innocent smile and I couldn't help but chuckle.
"Let's just send these two home. I might be able to open a portal specifically to their dimension. It might take a bit more energy than just a portal to someplace here." I held my arm out and began chanting a spell.
A light blue squared portal appeared in front of me. Jei stuck his head in for a couple seconds before pulling it back out. It was covered in sand.
"I think that's the wrong one." He spat sand after he spoke. I immediately closed the portal and nearly fell to the ground if Toshiro hadn't caught me.
He set me down on the couch and just told me to rest for a bit before I try again. That portal was from S002, a dimension that rains sand every half hour. Very far away from our current dimension, I might add.
"I don't think I'll be able to for a couple months at least. Jei, you might want to consider staying here until we can return."
"If you're so certain, we will stay. Meaning, I need to get a job and Hikaru will need to go to school..." His voice died down a bit when he mentioned Hikaru and school.
"You seem upset. Is her going to school a bad thing?" I asked, trying to understand.
"She's never been to a school before so I'm just worried. She has never really interacted with kids her own age before... and her 'condition' will make it hard for her to remain at the same level as everyone else."
Her 'condition' was a result of her creation. See, she wasn't created normally. Jei stole an item from the gods and in return for the item, he requested a child of his own. The catch was that the gods placed a curse on both of them. Jei's curse was that he ages a lot slower than everyone else, which makes him practically immortal. Hikaru's curse was that she ages faster than most, but the age changes at random. She can be six years old one day and be sixteen the next. Which is why I've developed a 'cure'. It doesn't actually cure the condition, it will just halt it for about 48 hours. I haven't told them yet, though. I want Jei to be fully aware of what it is, in case it is somehow harmful.
"Then it's settled. Hikaru will go to school with us while Jei gets a job." Toshiro seemed excited as he said that.
"I thought you two went to high school?" Jei asked.
"We do, but our school is very odd. Apart from being a high school, there is a second section which is an elementary. It isn't too far from the highschool, it's on the same property. They are just separate buildings." As I said that, Hikaru waddled into the room.
I must not have noticed that she wound up in my bedroom, but I don't mind her being there. She waddled up to me and smiled. She was very adorable, Jei was lucky to have her. She also understood a lot more than other kids and she had a couple special abilities. She could communicate with animals. We only discovered that when she had gotten kidnapped by an opposing gang. Jei had told me the story before.
"Hikaru, we've decided you will be going to school. Can you handle that?" Jei asked her, kneeling down to her level. He was an amazing father, unlike my own.
"Mhm! I can handle it!" She spoke excitedly, as a kid her age would usually do.
"I'll get the paperwork tomorrow, then the following week she should be starting."
