Episode 14: The King is dead

Next Day

Avni's POV

I woke up by subsequent knocks on the door, I opened the door to find one of the court ladies standing there.

"Your Highness, his majesty is no more" she whispered, the fuck, I.... I wanted to kill him, "What.... What happened to him?" I stuttered out, she came closer to me, as if was going to tell me top secret. "Rumors say... crown prince....killed him however the guards say it was assassin" she muttered, "Which one is true?" I questioned, a sudden rush of panic gushing in my blood, what if... what if it's him.... He did it for me..... what if he gets beheaded for me, I..... I won't be able to bear it.

"Rumors most probably, because I saw His highness, coming to your chambers with bloodstained hands, early this morning" she said, making a warm sensation rise in my chest. He killed his own father for me........ do I mean that much to him?

Kyle's POV

I was performing the rituals for my father's funeral.

His words from last night were continuously ringing in my mind.

FLASHBACK

I entered in my father's chambers to execute my plan.

"I expected you sooner" my father who was reviewing some documents spoke up, "Huh?!" I replied, not getting what he meant.

He chuckled.

"If I would've gotten to know that someone tried to touch your mother, I would have beheaded them that day itself, wouldn't have waited for one and half year." he said with a frown.

"Why?" I asked "Why you did that to her?" I further asked.

"I am a bad man Kyle, worst, I did a lots of unforgivable things, one of them was touching her and I never realized it till a few months ago. It was 2 months since you left, she came to me for second time, it was around midnight, I was stunned to see her..... She was dressed beautifully, I thought she was no different after all, since she didn't had your attention so she was coming to me but she proved me wrong..... She fell on her knees, joined her hands and asked me to call you back, she craves for you, she regrets pushing you away that night because she was emotionally unstable, I told her to call you back herself, she replied she did but you never saw her texts or picked up her calls, she cried in front of me, her sobs echoed through my chamber, thats when my heart softened for her for the first time...... I realized if Isla would have been alive, if she would have been there at her place, how heart wrenching I would have felt to see my daughter begging for her husband's affection, to meet him, to a person who touched her inappropriately, who forced her...... that's when I decided you don't deserve her and I don't deserve to live, I asked her to go back to India, she didn't say anything further and quietly left. If she would have left this hell hole that day she might wouldn't have been like this, she loves you Kyle but that's not completely true, she loves the idea of loving you, she feels she is bound to love you only you because a sane woman can never love a man like you. I failed Kyle, I failed as a father, as a king, as a father-in-law, as a husband and even as a person. I know you would hate me even more after this but I killed Riah's parents because they......." and a loud gunshot echoed in the room, the bullet traveled straight to my father's forehead, "Appa!!!!" I screamed, after years I called him Appa, and that too for the last time I addressed him.

"...they were the reason Isla ended herself.... Don't try to find who shot me...... Tell Avni I am extremely sorry.... Tell your mother I loved her.... Keep my sins hidden from her.... And I love you Kyle, I din't show but I love......" and those were his last words to me.

I.... I thought I hated him, then why is my heart aching for him, tears seeped through my eyes uncontrollably. I held his physique close to me, "I should be hating you dad... but I love you" I whispered to him.

The doors to his chambers opened revealing his guards.

I completed all the last rituals, with Avni beside me, I know this must be hurting her to show immense respect to the man who wronged her but she never stepped back from her responsibilities, dressed in a long black satin dress with blouson sleeves, her face void of any makeup or emotions however she looked more lively than she looked the day when I returned from Italy. Her face had her iconic natural glow, which can attract any man, her plump lips weren't colorless, but were adorned with a natural pink shade.

After the conclusion of ceremony we were returning to the main palace, Avni was with my mom, trying her best to console her while I was with the head minister of my father's court as he wanted to discuss something of extreme importance which must be nothing other than my coronation.

"Your Highness, we need to hold your coronation asap" he informed, I nodded.

"When?" I asked, "Day after Tomorrow" he replied, "Isn't it too soon?" "It should have been done today itself however we didn't want to burden you" he replied with gritted teeth.

"You adored my father?" I questioned.

"He was our King" he replied with a soft smile playing over his lips, "You really thing I killed him?" I questioned knowing ninety percent people from palace believe this, he shook his head in response. "No your highness, no matter how bad father or person he was, you always loved him, I know about her highness's miseries and intentions, but never once you let her complete her aspirations of killing him....." "Because I promised her I would do it for her" I mumbled lowly.

"Your-" "Arrange a meet with Jimin for me, and it's not a request by his friend, it's an order by his futuristic King" I ordered and left the place, heading to Riah's chambers.
