With Alannah still nestled in his arms, Nathaniel gazed down at her serene sleeping form. Her vulnerability in that moment tugged at his heartstrings, and he couldn't help but feel a deep sense of protectiveness towards her.

Carefully, he disentangled himself from her embrace, mindful not to disturb her peaceful slumber. As he stood up, he tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, his fingertips lingering for a brief moment against her soft skin.

As Nathaniel stood up, intending to tuck Alannah into her bed, he felt a tight grip on his shirt. Startled, he looked back and saw Alannah, still fast asleep, holding onto him tightly.

Her voice, filled with a hint of desperation, echoed softly in the room. "Don't go, Nathaniel. Don't leave me."

His heart ached at the vulnerability and fear in her words. Without hesitation, he gently eased himself back down onto the couch, careful not to disturb her. He reassured her in a soothing voice, "I'm right here, Alannah. I'm not going anywhere. You're safe with me."

Alannah clung onto him even tighter, seeking comfort in his presence. Nathaniel wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close, and pressed a gentle kiss on her forehead. He wanted her to feel protected and cherished, to know that he would always be there for her.

They stayed like that for a while, in the quiet embrace of the night, finding solace in each other's arms. Nathaniel's fingers tenderly traced patterns on her back, offering her a sense of security and warmth.

With a soft sigh, Alannah gradually relaxed in his arms, her breathing steadying. Nathaniel knew that she had found some measure of comfort and peace. He gently disentangled himself from her hold, placing a soft kiss on her cheek before tucking her in with care.

Leaving a lingering touch on her cheek, Nathaniel whispered, "I'm right here, Alannah. Sleep peacefully. I'll be by your side when you wake."

With a final glance, he quietly made his way out of the room, leaving the door slightly ajar, ensuring that the soft glow from the hallway would comfort her in the night.

Nathaniel stepped into the living room, his mind filled with concern for Alannah and the disturbing state of her trashed apartment. Determined to find answers, he reached for his phone and dialed the number of his trusted gang member, Marcus.

"Marcus, it's Nathaniel," he greeted, his voice reflecting a mix of worry and determination. "Something happened at Alannah's apartment. It's a complete mess, like it was ransacked. I need you to find out what happened, if it was a burglary or something else."

There was a brief pause on the other end of the line before Marcus responded, his voice filled with the same seriousness that mirrored Nathaniel's concern. "Consider it done, boss. I'll get my contacts on it right away. We'll find out who did this and why."

Nathaniel nodded, even though Marcus couldn't see him. "Good. Keep me updated on any findings. And Marcus, make sure you handle this discreetly. I don't want any unnecessary attention drawn to Alannah or her safety."

"You can count on me, boss," Marcus affirmed, his voice carrying a sense of loyalty and determination. "We'll get to the bottom of this and ensure Alannah's security. Anything else you need?"

Nathaniel hesitated for a moment, contemplating whether to share more details. But for now, he decided it was best to keep certain aspects to himself until he had more information. "No, that's all for now, Marcus. Just focus on finding out what happened. Keep me in the loop, and be careful."

"Understood, boss. I'll get on it right away," Marcus assured him before ending the call.

Nathaniel took a deep breath, feeling a mix of anticipation and worry. He knew he had to remain patient while Marcus and his contacts investigated the incident. In the meantime, he would do everything in his power to ensure Alannah's safety and provide her with the support she needed.
