When I opened the doors the library was torn to shreds and everyone was in a panic flying around, frantically searching for books. I saw Ewald through the chaos in the manual section and went over to him.
"Ewald! what the heck is going on!?" I yelled.
"Eris, I'm glad you're here! You know that weird room in the little towers' basement, the big, open one we use to watch the races on? Well the sirens in there are going off like crazy and the screens are flashing "invaders detected", some for the rest of the place. What does that mean?!" He screamed, while frantically searching the bookshelf . "I'm trying to find the manual to turn it off, help me!"
"What do you mean invasion? Every other time we've been attacked they've never done that." I said trying to calm him down but failing.
"This is different Eris, the cameras showed these strange soldiers marching on the lion temple!" He said.
" Well We need to go help them. The lions are our friends and we don't know what the invaders are capable of!" I said running off towards the exit.
I hopped in one of the jets, Kyten with me. Razar, the greedy bastard had stayed behind since he heard no mention of reward. We took off but we're shot down soon after, the ejector pod had enough thrust left to carry us to the side entrance of the temple. I looked out the window before we crashed and it was complete war infront of the temple.
"Shit they've found me!" Kyten panicked.
"What? You know these people?" I asked.
"Yes, and not in a good way." He replied while searching for cover.
I was about to get angry with him but there was more pressing matters at hand. We landed and sprinted for the stairs up, I had caught a glimpse of a green skinned, fancily dressed person making his way across the bridge. Alone.
"Whose that?" I asked to myself. Kyten must've seen the same person I had because he broke down immediately.
"Oh no. No no no no no not him!"
"Kyten!" I called out, trying to snap him out of it. "Calm down, it's ok. I see this kind of thing every other day."
"No you don't understand! These people are ruthless. They kill, torture, destroy, and do anything else they can do to make sure they stay in power. They view me as a threat to their regime and they want to kill me!"He said.
"It's alright, your safe up here on Chima. There's not many of them here, we outnumber them 100 to 1." I said, reassuring him. "Now let's get up there before anything bad happens to La'Gravis!"
"I'll go up on the bridge myself, you go around the back and hide." I told him
"You can't possibly face him alone Eris, he'd kill you in an instant." Kyten warned
"If he's here for you then you're more important. I'll draw his attention and you hide and get La'Gravis to safety, I'll have backup soon enough." I said, reasoning with him.
I flew up above the bridge and got a clear view of my target, the fancily clothed stranger was surely enough alone. He was completely different from any other tribe I've ever seen, he was tall, had light green scales, and no legs; rather a large tail he used to slither across the ground.
I had a clear shot and his back was turned to me. I grabbed my axe and swooped in.
"How." The stranger said, with his back stilled turned. He reached for a strange, metallic device on his hip as I approached, I was right on top of him when he finished his sentence.
"RUDE!" He yelled, swiftly turning around. He clicked a button on the object and slashed upwards at me with a flash of red, searing my wing and sending me tumbling to the ground before I could even swing at him.
"Not even Introducing yourself before fighting an opponent? Shameful coward!" He yelled, berating me while I lay on the ground curled up in pain. He had a posh accent when talking normally but quickly turning to harsh when he yelled.
"Well? Get up! I heard you talking with that cowardly rebel thief below me. If you really think you can take me on yourself then give me all you got, Unless this is the extent of your fighting prowess. I had hoped for more!" He liked to talk and it was starting to get in my nerves.
I struggled to get up but eventually got on my feet. I turned to face him and the device he held was a weapon, unlike any other chi powered weapon I've ever seen, it had no blade but a solid, glowing red column of some kind of energy. It was then I noticed the wound on my wing, there was a big bald spot where he hit and my skin was seared like a piece of meat. It wasn't bleeding but it burned and it being exposed to the wind made it sting, I could move normally just fine but there was no way I could fly. I was the only thing between him and the king and he doesn't look like he just wants to chat with him. Kyten is hiding, Razar is a pussy, and everyone else is nowhere to be seen, I was completely by myself and I'm not going down in one hit, I reached for my axe ready to chop is head off.
"Heh, so you're ready to fight again? Let's see if you can go for two hits this time." He mocked.
I charged right at him holding my axe above my head for a downwards swing. I brought it down on him aiming for his collarbone at an angle, he slanted his body at a similar angle to my swing but a little to the left, missing completely.
It felt like the fight was going in slow motion for a few seconds, when I missed I looked him in the eye and he mine, they looked sinister and wild with a cruel smile on his face. I saw him rear his sword back aiming right for my side, when he went for the stab, out of reflex my wing came to my side and spread out faster than they ever had, parrying the strike. I thought I had a clear opening to cleave him in two but it seemed I had worked to his favor, the parry had put a lot of momentum into his sword and he used it to spin around to my other side, I blocked it with my axe handle but now it was half the length. When it broke I was frozen in shock but for only a second, unfortunately that second was exactly what he needed, he still had some momentum left and he spun around again, slicing at my stomach. I grabbed it and hunched over in pain, he went for a stab but I straightened myself through the pain and used the hook of the underside on my axe to grab his sword and pull it down. I had a window of opportunity so I took it, I used the other half of the handle as a weapon, spun around and with it in my left hand, hit him in the side of the head with all the remaining strength I had, I finally got a hit on him. I used the sharpened part he cut off from the axe and went for a stab but he grabbed it before I hit and forced it out of my hand.
Still reeling back from the initial hit, he slowly turned his head to me, stared me down and said slowly "That hurt." Before forcing the metal scrap through my shoulder, sending me to the ground. I was out and losing a lot of blood.
"Oh I almost forgot, where are my manners." The snake announced while I was on the ground. "My name is—" but he was cut off by a scream that shook me to my core, before I passed out I heard one thing.
"Resegidis!"
