By The Sea

Apparating to where he needed to go was easy, Ominis preferred it than how most used broom travel or the carriages. The sea salted air hit his face, whipping his cape around his knees violently. Yet there it as again that faint rose scent by the beach- by a stack of what he assumed was rocks he kicked over
"Revelio" the chime led him to a pair of jagged rocks, guiding himself along them, ignoring the birds calls. Maybe if he'd been here to enjoy it he could revel in its beauty, the smells and the feeling of sand beneath him. He envisioned it must be truly beautiful if Eliza came here to clear her head. A soft fabric caught his attention. Snagged between the anger rock and a pointed edge he felt it, her scarf...

*Flashback*
Ominis awkwardly fumbled with the bow on the box, he wanted it to be perfect for her. She hadn't asked for anything during Christmas, neither had he in all honesty but he knew she had no family- or none that she had mentioned. Maybe she had a bad relationship with them, but he wanted to make her feel wanted in some sense. She was always stealing his warmer attire, claiming they smelled nice and felt nice. It had prompted him to go get her a scarf that he would wear himself, requesting that it had a charm on it to smell like him until she changed it herself.
"Hey Eliza. Merry Christmas... I got you something" pushing it over to her sat on the chair opposite him. His heart had been in his mouth as he heard her carefully unwrapping it. How she squealed at it and wrapped her arms around him. That overpowering perfume she wore tickled his nose
"Oh thank you Ominis I love it! I got you something too! Go on open it" he had chuckled when his fingers brushed on the ring under its paper wrappings in the bag. He had slid it on his left finger where a wedding band would go, he hadnt thought much about it going there but it felt right to him.
"I have one too. So we match! It's really good, so if you get lost you can spin it 3 times and it will alert the other ring user to your location as it will take you to where you spun it. So if you get lost in school I can come find you now!" He cupped her face in her hands, kissing her hard. She could possibly be the most thoughtful woman he had ever met- lighting up his life with her infectious laugh. One day he would marry her, he just knew it.

It was like a lightbulb moment that flashback, that bloody ring! He still wore it, could it be possible she did too?
Pulling out her diary Ominis perched cautiously on a nearby rock, inhaling deeply he felt awful he had something so precious to her in his hands, but it could be the only way to find her, tapping his wand on a random page
"Find any entry about this ring in the last few months and if she still wears it" it was a long shot.
"I can't bring myself to wear this ring anymore on my finger, i thought one day we would have been married and living in a cottage in the woods nearby, away from that which haunts him. I guess it wasn't enough to stop him from pulling away. I'll put it on a chain around my neck in hopes he remembers me...maybe one day. But for now I'll focus on finding out what I need to know" slamming the book shut he tucked it cautiously in his robes once more. He just had to remember how it worked, tapping his wand against it nothing came of it, when he was lost he span it 3 times clockwise, maybe if he turned it counter clockwise it might take him to where she could be. Awkwardly spinning it he apparated with the ring.

Landing on his back, Ominis groaned at the twigs and rocks that had stabbed at his back

Landing on his back, Ominis groaned at the twigs and rocks that had stabbed at his back.
"Where in Merlins beard am I now?!"
"We are in Northern England, Little Hangleton" he hoped his wand was wrong but it wasn't. It was always accurate. His palms felt sweaty being back here, he could only hope his parents were away, anywhere, but not there. It all became clearer the further he walked down the winding stony path. The smell of the trees and the pungent one coming from the house nearby. Many had come up with rumours that the person who owned the house had died and never been recovered out of it but that was just silly child stories to spook them from going any closer;not that he wanted to mind you the smell was just awful enough to keep him away. Yet the deeper he got into the village-he realised the smell of roses wasn't here anymore, maybe it had been too long. But the ring had said this was her last location, so she had to be here somewhere right? The call of the fishmonger drew his attention, he would have spotted something suspicious. Cautiously approaching Ominis cleared his throat
"Excuse me Sir. I'm wondering if I could have a moment of your time it's regarding a case in the Ministry of a missing person" if the smell of fish wasn't off putting the smell of tobacco most definitely was
"Alright then, cmon then show me the picture or whatever you need to do" holding up the front of the case file he could only imagine what she looked like.
"Pretty lady there, not been round 'ere though. Maybe check at the pub I bet ol' Joseph will have seen her" placing the file away he thanked the man and rushed down to the pub. Nothing had changed since he'd been here as a child so it was pretty easy for his wand to navigate him up paths and through alleyways.
Fumbling with the door to the pub he internally cursed himself for being back in this place. He hated that the hairs on his arms stood on ends at the thought of bumping into THEM. Musty, very musty. Scraping the barstool he prepared himself with the file in front of him
"Alright fella, what you 'avin?" He knew to keep his wand discreet in places like this, the village was once a mix of Muggles and Wizards, now he imagined it was more Muggles
"Whiskey, neat please. And a moment of your time if possible?"
"You police?" Muggle...
"Private sector mate, got hired to look for a woman who's gone missing. Family are concerned so I'm going to her last known sightings to see if anyone remembers her" sliding the picture across. Ominis counted in his mind, it felt like a never ending chase, no wonder the last Auror gave up so soon and it was only day one!
"Yeah I seen her, pretty young lass too. Rented a room for the night that you can have a look about if you need pal. Such a shame when they go missing. But there was something odd about her. She wasn't here alone, she was with that older couple that live near the graveyard. Bunch of lunatics they are. When they went to bathroom, I told her to go that they wasn't right in head but she smiled and said was nuffin to worry about so I left her to it. Can't remember what time she left cos by time it got to breakfast key was already on the bar so figured she had somewhere to be"
"Older gent with blonde hair that greyed near roots and walked about in all black with an older woman who wore similar with brown hair? Had a load of kids at one point?"
"That's them.had a young lad. Who was blind poor thing, used his walking stick like a wand though. Got to have some fun when you can't see I guess, he went missing when he was about 11 but I think otherwise. Then the older kids started dwindling now its just Marvelo who's with them but he's just as bad as the parents so I'd avoid them if i was you" pouring the whiskey down his throat he regretted it immediately when the burn overpowered his throat, much to the bartenders amusement
"Cmon lad I'll show you the room she rented" relying on Josephs footsteps up the stairs made him feel so vulnerable.

Joseph had been kind enough to let Ominis inspect it on his own.
"Revelio" silence. Waiting a few more minutes Ominis trudged down the stairs disappointed
"Cheers Joseph, can you set me a bed up please? Want to take a look around tomorrow is all"
"Course, take room you was in earlier. Be a shilling for the night but if you need to stop an extra one I won't charge you. Breakfast is at 8am, need ought just gimme a shout" fishing out the Muggle money required by Aurors to travel he felt the shilling between his fingers, sliding it over he bowed his head in a way of thanks and took out to the silent streets. Judging by the quiet Ominis could assume it was sunset. Whenever the sun began to set his parents would yell them in for the night, insisting they couldn't be wandering the street like the peasants around them. How he had sat by the window listening to the Muggle children laughing with one another.

The graveyard sent chills down his spine; another revelio but nothing responded. Yet he could smell the faded roses, or was that just flowers from a loved one who no longer cared to visit. Sat besides the Gaunt crypt he pulled out a firewhiskey bottle. These extended pockets really was a thing of the future, how any things he could simply shove in the pocket and not worry about it weighing him down.
He had no need for politeness or manners, biting the cork off he swigged.

"Always fucking rain when I want to just have time to myself" stumbling down to the pub, right now a comfy bed seemed like heaven. If he hadn't drank so much he would have noticed the shadow following him down the path. Too little too late
