Sebastians POV
Sleep didn't seem to be as easy as before, he had woken up mere hours after dropping off. Ominis still gently snored, blissfully unaware that Sebastian was struggling. Besides the fact Eliza was still missing he wanted to just shake Ominis awake and ask him why did he just cut everyone off, what possessed him to ignore those he considered his nearest and dearest. He saw how happy Eliza had made him- how the frown that sported his face had been replaced with a gentle smile and dreamy look to him. He knew to pretend he didn't see them in the common room or the crypt when they went on their one on one 'dates'
How content Eliza had been; her eyes sparkling whenever Ominis was near and admittedly Sebastian wanted her to be happy with Ominis, to watch someone who had such a bleak view of life suddenly see the joy in everything. The way he'd tag along with Ominis to acquire Eliza's favourite sweets or wait at the courtyard in Hogsmeade so he could go purchase flowers. Many would have thought he got bored of it being a third wheel in a sense but he wasn't- Eliza was one of his best friends and Ominis was like a brother to him. It's why it pained him that day they graduated at Hogwarts and had already seen him pull away from them all.
The memory was still so fresh after they had become teachers and Eliza sat in the crypt crying, trying to understand why he had broken it off so suddenly. Asking Sebastian questions of was she not good enough? Was it all just entertainment for him? Did he even really care for her.Pulling on his boots and freshly warmed cloak Sebastian went outside of the pub for some air. It smelt earthy with a hint of rain, yet the morning sun was already beating down on the nape of his neck. Pigs nearby had taken to rolling in the mud, chickens running up and down the paths. Giving a 'morning' to the local baker he began to wander aimlessly. It was a small village with no less than 50 houses- potentially tight knitted as a community. His feet guided him back to the graveyard- for what purpose he didn't know but something inside him was screaming that something had been overlooked.
In the day it didn't look nowhere near as creepy as it did at night. The grim reaper statue that stood in the middle of it was just that- a statue. However in the darkest of nights he could have sworn it would move. Th gates rusted and lacked the proper care. Some gravestones had began to green with overgrown grass covering names. Scanning each individual one he stood in front of the Gaunt crypt, besides the obvious bottle Ominis had left behind he noticed something that made his skin crawl. The door was now open.
"Lumos" this was insane- it had to be a trap. His body on high alert for even the slightest movement. Candles lighting the way to an expensive looking marble square that he assumed had a body inside of it. Yet sitting on the top was scraps of paper in Eliza's neat writing. Running back out of there he kept forcing himself to run, stuffing his wand awkwardly in his pockets as he passed a confused looking woman who no doubt was wondering why he was gripping a piece of wood."Ominis wake up! I found something! Come on Ominis get your ass up!" There was that frown of annoyance, his hair flopped over his eye.
"Huh? Sebastian did you leave here without me?! You fool!"
"Shut it. Listen I went for a walk this morning just in case something had been missed, the crypt to your family was open with papers inside that has Eliza's handwriting" thrusting them under Ominis' nose he reached over for his wand, sighing.Ominis POV
Sebastian had been careless the fool, what if his family had seen him and followed him back here?! But this would explain why his wand didn't respond last night; he was unable to get to it so it didn't think to tell him it was there, which was mildly frustrating as he wouldn't have taken to drinking in the graveyard! Unless she came back to put them there. Oh Eliza what are you up to? Tapping the paper with his wand the robotic voice read aloud to them both
"I've found things that go deeper than just these crypts. The magick I have inside me can do more than I was warned of. It's suspected the final place that was once destroyed is in one of the Sacred 28 families. I've ruled out so far all except Malfoy, Crouch and Lestrange. These are the final pure blood lines I would need to search. It's fascinating how these families are considered some of the purest of bloods for marrying other pure bloods and refusing to go to half bloods or muggle born. It was why when I had met the Gaunt's I portrayed myself as someone looking for my parents and they had been listed as knowing them. However I couldn't keep my cool. I yelled at them when they began to go on about how half bloods and muggles was a disease to their world and how any who chose to breed with them deserved to be tortured and killed. Their son who is a horrific looking fella; beat me for hours, if it wasn't for the mother calling him away briefly I wouldn't have escaped. To whomever finds these notes- I will be in one of these locations searching. I must find the cure to help wizards and Muggles. This could not only unlock my full potential to cure but it means as a Keeper I can keep it under control and prevent another uprising. I began this search for a reason- to cure Anne... to help Ominis finally see" his heart felt like it could shatter into pieces. After all this time she was still searching for a cure to something he had told her he didn't want.By lunchtime they had left the room, graciously slipping Joseph 10 shillings, Sebastian had scolded Ominis for giving away so much but he simply shrugged
"The guy gave me a extra night for free and turned the other cheek when I came in looking like I was half dead. Plus it'll keep his mouth shut if my parents ever dare to go in there and question him" it was easier to walk after apparating a fair bit away from the place he once grew up in, he didn't want to risk splinching himself, whilst Episkey can heal small injuries he didn't want to push himself and lose an arm or organ. Sebastian broke the silence
"Do you think she knows someone is tracking her?" Rolling his eyes at the obvious
"Well she's addressing notes now to whoever reads them so my best bet is she does. If a teacher goes missing Aurors are obviously going to go searching and she knows that. However she's not giving direct locations in case someone who is a risk is following"
"Why did you break off from us? The moment you left Hogwarts you ignored our owls, you refused to see us. You broke her" his fingers twitched with the after effects from the curse his mother had given him. Continuing to walk ahead of Sebastian, he didn't want him to see his face falter
"In case of crap like this. In case I had to arrest one of you or if one of you wound up missing or dead. It makes it easier to track you if I have no recent connections" Sebastian halted, a pebble hit the back of Ominis' shoe
"You broke her heart Ominis! You both seemed so perfect for each other yet you blindsighted her and withdrew before the year was even done! Clearly you still mean something to her if she's STILL trying to find cures for people! You ignited a spark in her that she lost when you went you bloody idiot"
"DON'T YOU THINK I KNOW THAT SEBASTIAN! I LOVED HER! I WANTED THE REST OF MY LIFE WITH HER! I-I loved her with every fibre of my body. B-but I didn't deserve her love" falling to his knees he laid himself bare, Sebastian kneeled besides him as he sobbed "I couldn't have her be a bargaining tool in cases like so many Aurors had happen to them. I couldn't do that to her... I thought- I thought if I left and cut everyone off she would move on Seb" Sebastian pulled Ominis close
"She would have been safe at Hogwarts, we would have protected her. I would have protected her until my very last breath Ominis... You're my brother, she's my best friend. I would NEVER had let anyone hurt her. You did deserve her love! She over every bit of you, you made her smile the brightest! Sometimes you can be really dumb to say you're incredibly smart" Ominis hiccuped, his knees dirtied slightly.
His brief moment of happiness turned to fear at the explosion that set off not far from them, trees thudding to the ground and a high pitched scream coming from them. Sebastian gripped his arm; dragging him to the scene.
