Similar to the App thing, AO3 does not have an algorithm. AO3 is an archive, that's what the A stands for.
In other words, don't bother about stats. There is no ranking, no top lists. The lists when you click onto tags? Sorted by date on default. There is no algorithm to climb.
I saw some people assuming the lists they see when clicking onto a link is dictated by an algorithm. They ask how to get "on top". On default, these lists are ordered by how newly posted something is.
These lists can be sorted by Kudos (think Votes), Hits (think views), comments, bookmarks and what not. But no algorithm.
I want to mention, Kudos can only be given once per work, can't be taken back and there is a bot going around giving a dozen Guest kudos.
