AO3'S character limit for these is very small in comparison to Wattpad. Not as small as FFN's shoe box for dwarves, but still small.
Not that the space is needed. AO3 does not need a list of ships and rankings in the description. Party because that's what tags are for and because there are no rankings.
Everything has its dedicated field, so you only need a description. Which you may need to shorten, but this guide isn't made to tell you how to write your fics, descriptions included.
Most summaries are just a few sentences long and don't feature a character's whole backstory.
Also, do not use the summary for an author's note. That's what the AN field is for, so put your 3 AM mumblings in there.
