Magic woke up silently relieved that there had been no weird dream about Young Owen (which is what she was starting to call him).
Shelby was still sound asleep when Magic woke up, so she decided to just lay there, and wait for her friend to open her eyes.
She could faintly hear a bit of commotion around the attic, but decided to brush it off.
After all it was probably some rats talking about rat stuff or whatever.
Magic held the stuffed bear closer to her chest.
Olive's gift was surprisingly a big comfort to her even if they had stolen it. There was a heavy feeling in her chest, but she didn't know why.
Had something happened?
Were the weird dreams behind this feeling?
Was it something else?
Magic didn't know.
It was honestly rather frustrating how little she did know, about herself mostly.
The others had always treated her like some sort of child. A kid that didn't know what was best for them.
It was frustrating and unfair. Even Owen had practically babied her. Speaking of Owen she should probably tell someone about her dreams.
Not one of her friends from the clearing, they would probably jump the gun and do something rash.
Especially Krow.
So then maybe one of the rats?
Like Shelby or Eloise, or even Olive.
One of those three she could tell surely.
The rats were good people after all, and were less likely to overreact given the fact they didn't know Owen like her friends and herself did.
Suddenly Magic heard footsteps, and The Owen Rat hesitantly walked in followed by a red headed red whose hair matched his clothing almost perfectly.
"Hello Magic, I see you're up" The Owen Rat said, something odd in his voice.
"Hello" Magic responded noticing that the two rats were covered in blood, "uhm... w-what happened to you?"
"Nothing but... you know your friend Bek right?"
"Yeah, she's my friend, I could never forget her"
Especially not after she left me to die like she did the other people in our old clearing.
"Well she... Apo here found her... dead"
Magic blinked, too shocked to process the name The Owen Rat had just said.
"W-what?" Magic squeaked out
"She was killed by The Janitor" Apo explained.
Magic sat up with Shelby still sound asleep next to her.
"N-no, that... that can't be... we... she promised us no one would die!"
Tears fell down Magic's face as she sobbed uncontrollably.
The Owen Rat placed a paw on her shoulder.
"I'm sorry for your loss, I really truly am."
Magic said nothing, she just continued to sob.
Eventually Shelby woke up.
The yellow eyed rat needed no context as to what had happened. All it took was one look at Magic's sobbing body for her to wrap Magic in a big rat-hug.
Magic leaned into her, the rats embrace reminding her of Gracie's hugs.
No words were exchanged.
No words were needed.
The only sounds were of Magic's pained sobs, and her silently wishing it had been her instead.
Eventually her sobs turned into silent tears as Magic cried herself to sleep.
"Why can't you love them like you love your other children?" The voice of a woman with brown hair and hazel eyes asked.
"Have you even looked at them Heather!? That girl and her yellow eyes, and that boy with his noodle arms! They're useless and hideous!"
"They are your children Rowan!"
Rowan scoffed
"No child of mine would look like that, you've been having an affair."
Heather reeled back, shock and anger flashing through her face.
"I'm the cheater?" Heather asked, "I'm the cheater when you've been fucking other woman!? I'm the cheater when you've cat called and flirted and acted single!? Like it or not Owen and Olivia are your kids and how they look is reflected completely off of your personality! You're lucky you're the general or else your actions could be punishable by death!"
"And what may those actions be? If I really have banged other woman and acted single as you say, then why would I be punished with death if it weren't for my job?"
"Murder Rowan, your sister who pointed out how much you drink, my step-brother who was ever so fond of Owen and more of a father to him then you ever were. Your own mother who admitted how much of a mistake it was to let you join the army. All of them and more died within two weeks at least after pissing you off."
"There is no proof that I killed them."
"No proof you say? You have no idea what the hell you're talking about."
"Oh? Is that so? Care to enlighten me then?"
Heather pulled out a picture of Rowan standing over the body of an elderly woman a slight smirk on her face.
Rowan was covered in blood holding an equally bloody sword.
Only a blind man wouldn't see it as evidence.
"That..." Rowan trailed off, "what's the matter? Too angry that you weren't as careful as you thought?" Heather taunted.
"Who took that photo?"
"A friend, not that I'd tell a murderous bastard like you. Considering your record I'd say it's safe to assume you'd kill them as soon as you found that out."
"Maybe you're right, but I can kill you!"
Heather stumbled back as Rowan grabbed a knife from the kitchen counter and stabbed it into Heathers chest.
The brunette stumbled before dashing towards a room, and locking herself in it.
There, an even younger Owen and Olivia ran over to her along with a girl who must've been sixteen.
"Mom!" The trio shouted running over to her as she slid to the ground.
"My children" Heather sputtered out sounding on the verge of death.
"No, no, no, no don't leave us like this!" The teen cried.
"Who did this?" Little Olivia asked.
"Y-your fa-fa..."
Heather's eyes glazed over and the teen wrapped Little Owen and Olivia in a hug as the two kids started to cry.
