Chapter Thirteen

As Olive scurried away from the van with the others, they couldn't help but wonder if Magic was really gonna be ok.

After all, Soup and Krow hadn't been the nicest people to come into the attic.

Heck Krow had literally killed someone.

Probably sensing their worry Owen put a reassuring paw on their shoulder.

"Don't worry, we'll get them out of there"

"I know, but we don't even know what we need to be looking for."

"I might"

Both Olive and Owen turned at the sound of Apo walking towards them.

"You do?" Owen asked

"Yep, I think I saw like a blue key poking out of The Janitor's pocket when me and Human Bek were caught by him."

"Really, guess we should look around for a blue key then."

"But wouldn't it be on The Janitor since Apo saw it in his pocket?" Olive pointed out giving the two a worried look.

"It could be, but let's not assume that just yet, we don't want to put anyone in danger if it can be avoided." Owen said

"I see, then let's split up into groups"

"Oh yeah, because nothing goes wrong when you split up." Apo added sarcastically

"While you both have a point... I'm gonna have to agree with Olive on this one Apo."

"Oh come on!"

"So should we get into groups then?"

"Yes, but I'm gonna tell you this now Olive, you don't have to risk your life, if you want to go back to the attic you can."

"No, I'm not gonna run away, not when my friends are in danger."

Owen smiled at this.

"Alright then, I just wanted to tell you this first so you know there is no pressure being put on you."

"I know, but I can do this!"

"And I know you can"

Owen patted Olive affectionately on the shoulder before walking up to the group of rats with Olive following close behind.

"As you all know, the humans Magic and Soup, as well as their Krow have been trapped, and put in this van by The Janitor. And although we cannot break though the van, Apo has given us some important information. That being the way to open the van, is with a blue key. I want us all to split up to find it, specifically going in groups of five or less. I know you're all scared of what is to come, and I understand if you don't want to do this. If any of you wish to leave, and go back to the attic you may, but for those who wish to stay, I thank you for that. Now with that out the way, is there anyone who does not wish to risk their life?"

Owen waited patiently for the rats to make their decision.

After five minutes of no one moving Owen said, "alright then, everyone get into a group of five please."

The rats and humans all ran around to find someone to get into a group with, until it ended up looking something like this:

Group One: Lizzie, Scott, Owen, Sniff, Olive

Group Two: Ollie, Apo, Acho, Gracie, Bek

Group Three: Eloise, Spidey, Tubbo, Shelby, Human Acho

Group Four: Rat Krow, Will, Martin, Jimmy

"Alright, let's get going everyone!" Owen said clapping his hands together.

"Yeah! Wait, what are we looking for again?" Lizzie asked

"A blue key Lizzie" Scott answered

"Oh, yeah that makes a lot more sense now that I think about it. Honestly I don't know how I forgot about the fact that we're looking for a blue key."

"Honestly I'm also surprised you forgot" Olive commented

Lizzie laughed in an attempt to hide her embarrassment, but Olive still caught on to that fact despite her best attempts.

"Shall we get going now?" Sniff asked

"Oh yeah, we should probably do that" Lizzie said chuckling nervously.

The group scurried back into the mansion with Olive throwing one last glance back at the white van.

"So, where should we look first?" Scott asked

"Hmm... maybe the maids room?" Sniff suggested

"Or the kitchen!" Lizzie chimed in

"How about we try the garden" Scott added

"The library?" Olive offered

Owen let out a chuckle at their inability to decide on one place they should search.

"Heyyyy don't make fun of us! We're trying our best here" Sniff whined

"I know, I know I'm sorry" Owen apologized

"It's ok Owen! You don't need to apologize!" Scott said smiling

"I guess you're right"

"As adorable as your friendship is we still need to figure out a place to search" Lizzie interrupted.

Both Olive and Sniff nodded in agreement.

"You are absolutely right, let's think, if we were The Janitor, where would we put a blue key?" Owen said

The rats thought over that for a long time before Scott said, "maybe the basement? He's almost always there when he isn't chasing us, so it would make sense that he'd keep the blue key somewhere in there."

"Oh yeah! I can't believe we didn't think of that!" Olive added

"Well then it's decided, come on rats, let's go to the basement!" Owen said started to scurry in the basement's general direction with Olive and the others following close behind.

Eventually they made it to the laundry shoot which was one way to get to the basement where they ran into: Ollie, Apo, Acho, Gracie, and Bek.

"Hey you guys" the shirtless rat greeted, giving the group a wave.

"Hello Bek" Owen said

"Did you have the same idea to check the basement to?" Olive asked enthusiastically, making Ollie snicker.

"Yeah, I thought I saw something that resembled a blue key back when me and Human Bek were... y'know, so we decided to look to see if it wasn't my rat brain playing tricks on me."

"I see" Owen scratched his chin in thought, "good to know we are at least on the right track"

Both Scott and Sniff nodded in agreement

"How about we go together! Like a family! I miss my family, well Shelby's still alive, but I don't know about the rest of them. My father isn't alive I know that, he was flushed down a toilet, and my mother is also dead, she was killed by-"

"OK that's enough monologuing for today!" Apo interrupted the trash rat.

"Wow you're so insensitive Apo, you know that? How would you like it if your father got flushed down a toilet huh!?"

"Let's not fight over silly matters like this, and focus on helping our friends get out of the van" Owen suggested, stepping in between the two rats.

Olive deeply admired The Big Rat, he usually always knew how to handle a situation, and even if they were part of the ratsistance, it wasn't a crime to think Owen was a pretty cool leader, was it?

Olive's admiration aside, they along with the other rats quickly jumped down the shoot.

Where hopefully the key lay in wait for them to find.
