Umm... miss Ave? 'Yes?' ...Are you really going to ignore them? Laurel anxiously asked as she mentioned over the crowd. Despite the hungry masses eagerly looking for a vacant seat amidst the dwindling population of tables and chairs, no one sits with Ave.
Around her, the eyes of curiosity and contempt intermingled with one another after the word of their duel spread like wildfire amongst Laurel's peers. Most notably, the young girls and supporters of royalty eyed her with the most contempt.
A complete opposite to the young squires aspiring to be a knight as they eyed the firstborn curiously. Beneath their heavy gazes, anyone would crumble from the pressure. Not even Zane nor the pestering Hana could approach her. Anyone crumbles without exception. Anyone from their peers that is. For an adult, it barely fazes her.
Ave had already gone through this phase. Her leased and recovering body demanded more attention than the opinions of children as she peacefully eats her meal. Today's menu was barley gruel mixed with some thin slices of apples. To say it was delicious would be nothing but a lie.
It was bland, slightly cold, and the least appetizing meal Ave had laid eyes on for a while but for a recovering patient, it was the easiest to consume. Even with her dire cravings for meat and vegetables, Ave was not confident in the slightest how the young body would react to such a heavy meal. Though, it did not stop her from wishing it.
From the corner of her eyes, Ave could see the look of disgust and apprehension from the young aristocrats while the commoners could only look at her with pity. Some of them do look angry, maybe we should move elsewhere? Laurel timidly suggested as Ave chuckled.
'Lass, I am going to tell you one of the biggest secrets in life. If you can understand it and live by it, life would be so much easier for you.' Ave thought, grabbing Laurel's attention to the fullest. Really?! What is it then?? Quick! Tell Laurel already! Ave could not help but smile.
'Simple, live life as if it was your last.' Ave could not help but chuckle quietly as Laurel pulsed in confusion. Laurel... Laurel does not understand. How can that make life easier?? 'Hey, it's a secret! I'm not telling you.' Ave giggled mischievously as Laurel looked back, betrayed.
B-but you said you will tell Laurel the secret! 'I did! I didn't say I would explain it to you though.' T-that's cheating! Miss Ave swindled Laurel! Laurel shouts back at the injustice given to her as Ave chuckled. 'Sorry lass, but it is much more rewarding if you figure it out yourself... though I pray you understand it before it is too late.'
Laurel paused slightly for a moment as a tinge of sadness permeated Ave's mind. The little girl tried to think of a reply when a sudden bang interrupted her and Ave. Instincts roared to life before relaxing as the soldier within looked up to see Kyrie staring down intensely. Ave tried her hardest not to frown as she took another spoonful.
"Can I help you?" Ave asked neutrally at the frowning Kyrie. "...I want a rematch." The young prince wasted no time as it caused everyone within earshot to gasp in shock. The world of politics demanded you to hide your intentions as best as you can while learning others.
It was out of character to say the least for a member of royalty to directly voice out their desires so openly. "No thank you." And Ave responded back in kind. Kyrie's already frowning face turned into a horrifying mask of anger as he growled out an answer.
