The weeks leading up to the wedding passed in somewhat of a blur for Weiying. Without work to distract him, He found himself fully immersed in the wedding planning. He was constantly putting on fake smiles and fake enthusiasm for their families.

He always seemed to be calling, texting, and emailing with his mother (and Madam Lan, Meng Yao, and Sizhui, as they were all in a group chat now) figuring out the details. It was enough to make his head hurt. Weiying had helped Huaisung plan his wedding, but that had been over the course of a year , not a month. Thankfully, Madam Yu and Madam Lan were anything if not efficient, and the two made a formidable team.

They took the initiative and handled the major things, like renting tables and chairs or ordering the flowers from the florist..

He was envious of Lanzhan, who was the least involved. Weiying thought that their moms asked for his opinion out of courtesy more than anything, and one night, about a week before they were due to fly out, He’d said as much.

“Good,” Lanzhan had remarked. He was sitting up in bed reading a book, a pair of glasses perched on his nose (and holy shit did that look good on him, better than it had any right to). “I am absolutely okay with not being involved in the planning.”

Weiying had slipped under the duvet beside him and groaned. “I wish I was so lucky.”

Lanzhan had looked over at him with a cheeky grin. “Consider this practice for when you plan your real wedding after we get divorced.”

He’d rolled his eyes. “Yeah, yeah.”

He hadn’t fought about sleeping in the bed with him since that first night, and Weiying felt a sort of satisfaction, although He couldn’t quite pin-point why . It’s not like He wanted him to sleep beside him (although He couldn’t deny that it was nice to share a bed with someone (Alpha), as Weiying hadn’t slept with someone else in over a year). And He would be lying to himself if He said that He didn’t enjoy the feeling of his body heat at his back. But He remained solidly on his side of the bed, and Lanzhan stayed on his.

His conversation with Xichen stayed present in some back corner of his mind over the weeks following the shopping trip, and it liked to make itself known more frequently than He would have liked.

Flashback

Weiying and sizhui met up with Xichen and Meng Yao downtown the last week. It had taken a little convincing on Weiying’s part to encourage sizhui to go, and a lot of pleading for Xichen to agree to be nice.

It was the first time sizhui had ever met Meng Yao, and the two of them cliqued instantly. Xichen led the way through the upscale shops and boutiques in downtown Nie City, and Weiying found His jaw hitting the floor in every shop when he saw the price tags on the clothing.

Lanzhan had given him a credit card that morning before he and sizhui had departed, murmuring in his ear, “Spend what you want”, but Weiying still didn’t feel entirely comfortable using it. But he knew that they would look at him funny if he didn’t buy anything (especially sizhui, who didn’t know the truth about the engagement), and Lanzhan would probably get onto his if he didn’t, so he reluctantly bought a few items.
