I tagged along with Cleo and Rikki on our way to the boat shed. When we got there, Bella and Will were teasing each other. She was holding something from him, and he was trying to get it.
"Oh, come on, you two. Really?" Rikki grinned at them.
"We weren't doing anything," Will remarked.
Are you sure? I thought.
"Good. Then you won't mind coming for a swim with us," Cleo turned to Bella.
"Sounds good," Bella nodded.
"Well, what are we waiting for?" Rikki turned to the rest of us.
The girls and I left the boat shed.
🌊
As the four of us swam, I noticed there was no sign of any ocean life. There was no sign of the dugong pod, which made me concerned.
We arrived at the moon pool. As we surfaced, the temperature was hot, like the interior of a sauna.
"Guys, is it just me, or is it warm in here?" Bella wondered.
"It better not just be you," Rikki stated.
"I'm serious."
"No. It definitely is a bit more humid," Cleo commented.
"Something's weird," Rikki pointed out.
"Well, this is a volcano, but it's supposed to be dormant."
"No, it's not that," I shook my head noting the possibility of the extreme humidity and heat warded off the sea life.
"Something's changed," Rikki added.
🌊
We got back to the boat shed to inform Will of the discovery of the sudden change in the temperature and the lack of ocean life.
"So, why do you think it's changed?" Will asked all of us.
"That's exactly what we've gotta figure out," Bella answered.
"But how?"
"I'm gonna go back," Cleo told the rest of us.
"Right now?" Will wondered why she planned on returning to the moon pool.
"Yeah, now?" Rikki inquired. "But we just got back."
"I thought it was your favorite place in the whole entire world," Cleo pointed out.
"It is. Apart from my nice warm comfy bed."
"Cleo's right. There is something going on out there," Bella stated.
"Plus, something's scared off the fish and other sea mammals and sent them packing for different waters," I added.
"Can we go first thing in the morning?" Rikki turned to Cleo.
"Fine," Cleo nodded.
The door opened and Sophie entered in.
"See ya," Rikki glanced at Will before following Cleo and I out.
After getting home, I emailed Emma of the dramatic changes to Mako Island as it was too late to video chat with her. And, knowing she'd get back to me at once after getting the message, she'd end up researching the cause behind the rising temperature and vacant water.
🌊
The following day, Emma contacted me that she was flying into Brisbane. She was on a long-haul flight and would be arriving the next day. Also, Emma told me that she read my email and researched possible reasons for the temperature skyrocketing and the departure of the sea life. One of them being sudden changes in the environment and weather. Another was natural disasters.
