"NOOOO", Serpico interrupts your play, "I said slower! Why don't you listen to me?"

You groan and lift your bow to your violin once again. By now the muscles in your right upper arm ache. Nonetheless you don't twitch once.
Your gaze is fixed upon the music sheets.
Then, slowly, you move the bow across the strings of the violin and create a clean crescendo.
Serpico closes his eyes with a serene expression and puts his hands behind his ears in order to hear better. You gave up telling him that this actually has no influence on his hearing abilities.

You finish the move elegantly and put down your instrument.
Serpico opens his eyes and smiles broadly at you.
"Awesome. That's it."

A relieved sigh escapes your mouth and your smile returns to your lips.
"Finally", you murmur and empty your glass of water.

Serpico, too, takes a mouthful of his cappuccino.
"We'll make a quick break here. You could tell me about your weekend in the meantime", he suggests and sits down on a chair.
You sit down on the couch not far from where you've been standing.

The good thing about getting taught by Serpico is that you're allowed to use this room as often as you want. It's specially designed for musicians and extremely comfortable. The walls are high and arched to enhance the sound quality. The temperature inside the room is always the same thus the instruments won't get affected by heat or cold. There are a lot of sitting possibilities in all heights, a bar and music stands.

"Oh it's been interesting", you begin and prop your cheek onto your palm. You really could need some rest now.

Serpico adjusts his seat and looks at you with curiosity shining in his eyes.

"Sonia's boyfriend is like really strange and stuff and I was forced to sleep at his apartment. Also the roommate is kinda ... different."

Serpico crosses his arms and legs as if to say that's it?
"Sonia is your cousin right?", he asks with a tone as if he knew something you don't.

You nod.

"Her boyfriend", he begins calmly, "is he called Griffith?"

Your eyes bulge and you gasp.
"Do you know him?!", you shout and immediately sit back on the couch again due to knowing that Serpico doesn't appreciate this exaggerated reaction.

However a crooked smile adorns his thin lips.
"I wouldn't say know but my sister once worked with him. His roommate may be Guts right?", Serpico continues and you can't control the astonishment on your facial features.

"Yes you're right."
No way the world is that small.

Serpico's eyes sparkle. They always do when he gets the chance to tell something new.
"Yeah I thought so. Guts and Griffith have always been best friends. At least my sister says so. She still works with Guts", he claims with a proud tone and flicks his hair to the side.

"Sick", you comment because you can't find another term to describe your confusion.

A moment later Serpico picks up the topic again.
"So you find Griffith strange?", he asks without giving away his own judgment in his voice.

You shrug your shoulders.
"He seems like a narcissist. Totally delusional in my opinion."

Serpico chuckles.
Being open with him was weird at first but improved your relationship and music a lot.

"What?", you bark and cross your arms.

"It's just funny that you dislike the one man everyone else seems to love", Serpico answers. Although it sounds like criticizing an approving smile tugs on his slender lips.

"Say, do you love him too?", you ask curiously.
You pray that he won't but you can't deny that Griffith matches Serpico's beauty standards. t

Serpico folds his fingers elegantly and places them on his knee.
"No I share your opinion. I met him once on a party and I never want to meet him again. At least not in private.
I'd love to see him play in a competition though. I'm sure he'd win every price. I envy his teacher, in case he has one."

Just as you thought. Serpico abhors Griffith's personality but adores his appearance.

Another information caught your attention.

"Is your sister in the military, too, or in what kind of job did she work with Guts?", you want to know.

"Yes she's a commander. Totally the opposite of myself", Serpico chuckles.

You raise your eyebrows.
"Like Guts?"

"Like him. Only another division. They get along pretty well even though Farnese is far more sensitive than him I'd say. I wouldn't have thought so either."

Something like jealousy broods in you at the sound of these words. You shouldn't be surprised that there are girls in the military, too. And that they get along with Guts. Him being close towards you is completely normal as he does not know you at all.

"Interesting", you think out loud and let your thoughts drift.

The buzzing of a phone echoes through the room a moment later. Serpico shrieks before finding out that it's his phone responsible for the disturbance.
An ashamed, reddish color crawls along his cheeks for he is usually the one scolding others for not putting their phones on mute.

One look at the screen wipes his blush away.
"I gotta take that", he says dryly and stands up. After walking away a few steps he holds the phone to his ear and listens. Not wanting to eavesdrop you focus on your music sheets and analyse them in a way that is not necessary right now.

Serpico murmurs here and there. Then he suddenly gets louder. A lot louder. Serpico is the most reserved person you know which is why you nearly get a heart attack as he begins to shout into his phone.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CAN'T?! OF COURSE YOU CAN, YOU JUST DON'T WANT TO!"

A response from the caller silences him shortly only for him to be even angrier when speaking again.
"YOU'RE THE MOST EGOISTIC COMPANY I'VE EVER WORKED WITH. IF I-"

Serpico stares at his phone. The deep beeping after someone hung up is audible.
"Fucking morons", he sneers and turns towards you.

Your eyes are wide with shock.
Serpico's gaze is filled with fury you've never witnessed like that before.
He sighs deeply and runs his fingers through his hair.
You've never seen him this devastated.

Your heart beats faster with every silent second.
Finally Serpico clears his throat and speaks calmly again.
"We're fucked. The company is disbanded and won't support us anymore. You are to pack your things and leave the flat by the end of this month."
