Aizawa had asked her if she was okay with staying in the medical bay a little longer so he could prepare her room. So that's why, a little less than a week later, X-23- or maybe she should start calling herself 'Y/N' now- was currently sitting in the room alone. She was allowed to roam the school, Nezu made it extremely clear she wasn't a 'prisoner', but she wouldn't even know where to go or what to do.

Instead of doing something productive, she was sitting in a chair next to the window sipping on some chamomile tea that Recovery Girl gave her, watching as cars drove by. Every now and then she'd see people; A school kid, a businessman, an old woman, a hero doing their rounds, a family.

She liked watching the families, as creepy as that sounds, and imagining herself in those scenarios. Walking with her dad to the park, getting ice-cream with her mom, racing her brothers and sisters down the sidewalk. The small things that she never got to experience, maybe it was a little crazy to imagine herself living in their world, but sometimes her imagination wandered far past the point of her ability to reel it in.

Her childhood never really struck her as odd- probably because she didn't have outside sources to compare anything too- but watching the people below, seeing the families from the shows that keep playing on the tv in her room (they never told her how to shut it off so now it just drones on in the background), just witnessing the way Aizawa's eyes sparkled when he mentioned his family or the way Recovery Girl always smiled when she passed the pictures of a young boy on her desk. X-23 felt something in her ache. Unknowingly, she was yearning for a family to call her own.

She had people that she cared about when she was in the lab. The other kids that were stuck with her, most of them were younger, were her responsibility. All of the older kids took on an unspoken oath to do what they could to comfort and care for the little ones, but that wasn't the same as being part of an actual family. The kids were her reason for training as hard as she did, she was their protector, the one who told them stories and held them at night. They were more than family- they were a responsibility. Those kids were a promise, a tether to her humanity when she thought it was gone.

But to give love and have it returned so easily, that was the family she craved. There would be no conditions to the love they gave and there'd be no fear lingering in the back of their eyes, scared of what she was capable of.

There was a knock on the door.

"Hey kid, I brought lunch." X-23 found herself smiling as she heard Aizawa's voice fill the room.

But as she took a breath, she noticed another person's scent mixing with his. It wasn't the clean cotton-y smell that followed Recovery Girl around, the other person's smell was similar to Aizawa's; they smelled like coffee and cat shampoo but instead of the additional jasmine scent that followed the underground hero, the other individual smelled like lavender and mint.

Turning to look at her new-found guardian, she saw a boy with purple hair standing with a bag in his hands. He had a striking resemblance to the pro hero next to him, this must be Hitoshi.

"I thought it would probably be a good idea for you two to get acquainted before you move in, you're okay with that right kid?" Aizawa looked at the girl in the bed who gave a small nod while looking at the food bags, her nose twitching.

"Did you bring the good stuff they give me here?" She looked like she already smelled the answer.

"It's called Gohan and yes, we did, along with some sushi and soba. Hitoshi, you can set the bags on that table."

The lavender haired boy did as instructed while X-23 pulled her chair to the table. The two kids didn't say anything to each other as they both placed the food out. In the bottom of one of the bags, there were two normal looking pairs of chopsticks and a blue plastic pair that were connected with a bending attachment at the top. A confused look etched its way across X-23's face as she tried to figure out what it was for.
