Walking through the school hallways wasn't usually an uncomfortable experience for Y/n Howlett. Maybe the first few times she was anxious, but now it was just a part of her routine. What wasn't part of her routine, however, was everyone staring at her as she passed by and whispering as if she was deaf. It had been happening all day and the girl was really getting sick of the other students around her.
"She got third at the sports festival!"
"Did you see her against Todoroki? She's practically crazy!"
"What about when she went against that acid girl? It must be nice having a healing quirk that strong... Life must be so easy when you're born with an amazing power like that!"
Of course the other students didn't know she could hear them, didn't know that she heard the good and the bad comments. The girl saw how some of them inched back when she walked past, how some of them glared at her with disgust or jealousy in their eyes.
"She's kinda hot though, right?"
"Dude what!? She's barely a five out of ten, and she's insane!"
Y/n just put her head down and let her hair curtain around her face, It's not worth it. Whatever they think about me couldn't matter less. I don't even know what those last two meant anyways. Just ignore them and get to the classroom, you're almost done with the school day. Just hero training left. Her mood was quickly dropping to match the gloomy weather outside.
Eventually she did make it to the 1-A door and was able to hide within the sanctity of her classmates and friends. Opening the large door, everyone's eyes drifted to her as she moved across the room to her seat- making sure to avoid a electric gaze and vermillion stare- before they started talking amongst themselves again.
Y/n just tried to drown them out, opting to sit on the window's ledge and watch the rain pour down until class started. The forecast had said it would be a thunderstorm and she was a bit embarrassed to admit how excited she was to potentially see lightning.
"Do you like the rain?" A curious voice made her head turn, Todoroki.
Y/n nodded and looked back out the window, "Yeah. This... this is my first time seeing a thunderstorm." She felt the boy get closer, taking a seat on the ledge next to her.
"Really?" The half and half boy seemed genuinely curious as he looked out the window with her.
"Yes. The place I grew up in didn't get a lot of different weather." That's a stupid joke that only X-22 would fully appreciate... I guess Bakugou and Kaminari would kind of understand it? Thunder cracked out.
"...My father was impressed by your performance at the festival." Todoroki's voice was monotone as he spoke, "I think you can expect some kind of invitation from him for your internship."
Y/n blinked. Oh okay, I guess we're changing the subject. "Do you think I should accept it?"
"I think it would be beneficial to your hero training to intern under the number two hero." He looked at her, his heterochromatic eyes were firm.
"Let me rephrase that, would you be upset if I accepted it? I wouldn't want to make you feel betrayed or something if I willingly chose to hang out with your father." Especially after all the bad stuff he told me and Mido about the guy.
He pondered for a moment and leaned his head against the rain splattered window, "No, I wouldn't be upset. It'd be nice to have the company of a friend while I'm there."
"You're going to intern with your father?"
"Yes, I am. I think he'll be able to teach me how to have better control over my fire, regardless of how much I hate him."
