Three years ago, in the lab
Coming to terms with X-22 being gone wasn't an easy process for any of the children in that cursed place, but especially X-23. She had become quieter, she had become angrier, most of all– her grief had turned the girl into a raging fire.
A fire that- much to the scientists and doctors displeasure- refused to fizzle out, a fire that fought with and used her claws on the scientists and doctors. A fire that saw the 'reprogramming' room one too many times these days.
The reprogramming room was yet another awful place within the wretched walls of the lab. All of the children feared it, but only one of them had started to grow numb to it. A solitary room with an uninviting metal chair with different straps and binds that could recline back, it was connected to a series of wires and contraptions all designed to make its victim regret their acts of defiance. And then it makes them forget it all.
"You understand why you're here today, don't you X-23?" A new scientist, a lady with dark black hair and brown skin. Because of X-23, she had recently been promoted to head scientist.
Nurses made quick work of strapping the young girl into the chair, tight enough to keep her trapped in regardless of her inhuman strength. They also placed specialized magnetic cuffs around her forearms to keep her from getting her claws out, after what happened that morning they weren't going to take any chances.
X-23 stared off at nothing, her eyes glazed over and her face holding the same unbothered expression. "Because I protected X-74." The head scientist sighed.
"X-74 wasn't in need of protecting, child. She had an appointment and refused to go, when Dr. Ikeda started administering the proper punishment, you attacked him."
Dr. Ikeda the red headed bastard that had made X-23's life a living hell for every waking moment. The old head scientist, thanks to the girl. She felt the faintest ghost of a smirk fighting to break through on her face.
"X-74 had already had an appointment with him today, Ikeda was trying to make her go to another one." Everyone knew what happened in the appointments that Dr. Ikeda oversaw, everyone knew that the patients were abused and practically tortured. "I simply made it clear that she was done for the day."
"By killing him?"
"It's not my fault that he pushed it that far and couldn't handle the consequences."
The older woman sighed and waved the nurses out of the room, "X-23 you keep doing this. So Dr. _____ has decided to up your treatment." That made the young girl finally look, actually look, at the dark skinned woman in front of her.
"...What do you mean?"
"I mean, clearly the old plan wasn't working in the long term as we intended. So we will be raising the voltage, keeping you here for longer sessions, and making sure that what we do will remain effective." She shoved a black mouth guard in 23's mouth, "Do I make myself clear?"
X-23 had fear and rage in her eyes as she began to struggle against her restraints, her cries muffled by the plastic in her mouth. Any attempts to release her claws were met with a painful electric shock and magnetic tug that forced the blades back into her forearms. The older woman pressed a few buttons on the machine's control panel and left the room without one last look towards 23.
Slowly, the metal chair began to recline back and a metal arm fastened a head plate around the young girl's head, half of her face being covered. More mechanical parts whirred and moved to cover her arms, legs, torso– until she was trapped within a metallic chamber. Thin metal needles poked out and buried into X-23's body, all the way to her metal skeleton, and soon enough electricity crackled to life from them.
