Taehyung brought Jungkook to a very specific bakery not too far from campus and Jungkook should've suspected something the moment Taehyung had asked him to join him.Of course the bakery he'd take Jungkook to would have Namjoon working there. He works as a packager at the bakery, but still, of course he was there. Of course Taehyung had a plan to go there.
But the counter had a tiny woman behind it, no ears or anything unusual in sight— Namjoon's ears were put away; probably so he wouldn't shed all over the food.
"Oh, Taehyungie!" The woman smiled up at Jungkook's friend and the older smiled back at her.
"Hi," he greeted her, and when Namjoon turned around, he also smiled at the older wolf. "Hi."
Jungkook shook his head as Namjoon simply waved back, silent. He seemed shy rather than flat-out ignoring Taehyung, but the younger shrugged it off.
"Who's this?" the woman asked, eyes set on Jungkook.
Jungkook toyed with the strings on his jacket as all eyes were on him. "I'm Jungkook... Hello." His cheeks embarrassingly heated up as he introduced himself.
"That's my friend eomma," Namjoon let out, chuckling. And oh, great. Jungkook is meeting Namjoon's mom like this and he's in a building with a bunch of wolves. Nice.
"Well, your friend is just adorable!"
"Our friend," Taehyung corrected as he stepped up to the counter. "And we're here to order a cake. Nothing too special. Just for one person."
"A birthday cake?" the woman asked, to which Taehyung nodded at. "Okay—" then she yelled, "Jinnie! Customers!" towards the open door in the back.
And to Jungkook's luck— he clearly had none— Kim Seokjin came walking out of the back, halting in the door as his eyes met Jungkook's. Of course he works here.
Seokjin pursed his lips as he walked up to the cash register. "What're you buying?"
Jungkook wanted to scoff at not being greeted nicely, at how Seokjin was supposed to be working the register yet he wasn't there when they walked in, or how rude it was to stare so plainly at Jungkook (as he was).
"Cake," Taehyung spoke up. "The smallest you guys have. I'll take a premade one if there are any."
Seokjin pointed to the left, the opposite side of the counter which the woman wasn't standing at. "Premade is over there." Seokjin then stepped over there, kneeling behind the glass. "These are the smallest cakes we have."
The cakes were cute, of course, but as Jungkook and Taehyung squatted down to Seokjin's level, Jungkook's eyes instead caught the wolf's, neither of them looking at the cakes.
He wasn't sure why he looked at Seokjin and he wasn't sure why Seokjin was looking at him, but he immediately retreated and followed Taehyung's eyes instead, which were set on a little white cake in the back.
"Uhm. Do you like that one, hyung?"
Taehyung nodded to his question. "I do. Can we get writing on this?"
Seokjin opened the case and took the cake out. "Of course." He took the cake over to the small lady, who immediately started preparing to write. "I'll add up the cost for them."
With that, Taehyung got the cake with 'Happy Birthday Jiminie' written on it and paid for it with ease, but Jungkook felt so uneasy after he had locked eyes with Seokjin a moment ago.
His gut was speaking, though he had no clue what about.
He thought that maybe it was bitterness from the wolf looking at him, but no. It had never felt like that. So, his next guess was butterflies. Butterflies from a handsome— yet agitating— wolf giving him attention.
