WARNINGS OF A RUNWAY COLLISION AND PLANE CRASH
A/N: For some reason the photo is not working for the DC-9 and for some reason the chapter for Massachusetts is not working, the chapter was on the crash of EgyptAir Flight 990, a flight that crashed off the coast of America after the Relief First Officer caused the plane to crash in a case of Pilot Suicide, if that does trigger you, you can skip research the topic.
Pictured below is the second aircraft involved in the collision after it was repaired and returned to service, photographed in December 1993.
The 1990 Wayne County Airport runway collision involved the collision of two Northwest Airlines jetliners at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (IATA: DTW, ICAO: KDTW), Detroit, Michigan, on the 3rd of December 1990, Northwest Flight 1482, registered as November 3313 Lima (N3313L), was a schussed domestic flight operated with a Douglas DC-9-14 operating a flight from Detroit to Pittsburgh International Airport (IATA: PIT, ICAO; KPIT), the plane taxied by mistake onto an active runway in dense fog and it was hit by a departing Boeing 727 operating as Northwest Flight 299, registered as November 278 Uniform Sierra (N278US), it was a flight from Detroit to Memphis International Airport (IATA: MEM, ICAO: KMEM), Memphis, Tennessee, one member of crew and 7 passengers (8 in total) of the DC-9 were killed in the collision.Northwest Flight 1482, a Douglas DC-9-14, was cleared from the gate towards Runway 03C (now Runway 3L/21R), but the plane missed turning onto Taxiway Oscar 6 and instead entered the outer taxiway, to correct the error, the crew were instructed to turn right onto Taxiway Xray but they instead turned onto the active Runway 03C, the realised the mistake and contacted ATC, which instructed them to leave the runway immediately, five seconds later at 13:45pm EST (Eastern Standard Time), the crew of the DC-9 saw the Boeing 727, a Northwest Flight heading to Memphis, Flight 299 was heading straight towards the DC-9 on it's takeoff roll, the 727's wing cut through the right side of the DC-9's fuselage just below the windows, then continued to the aft section, finally cutting off the DC-9's right side (the number 2 engine) engine, the DC-9 caught fire and was destroyed after the collision, the 727 crew initiated a rejected takeoff and the crew were able to stop the plane safely on the remaining runway, the 727 sustained a damaged wing and it was late repaired and returned to service.
The summary of the crash was Runway incursion in fog due to pilot error on the DC-9.
