USAir Flight 427, registered as November 513 Alpha Uniform (N513AU), was a scheduled domestic passenger flight from Chicago O'Hare International Airport (IATA: ORD, ICAO: KORD), Chicago, Illinois to Palm Beach International Airport (IATA: PBI, ICAO: KPBI), Palm Beach, Florida with a scheduled stopover at Pittsburgh International Airport (IATA: PIT, ICAO: KPIT), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on the 8th of September 1994, the Boeing 737-3B7 aircraft serving this flight and route crashed in Hopewell Township, Pennsylvania while it was approaching Pittsburgh's Runway 28R, which at the time Pittsburgh Airport was USAir's largest hub, all 132 people on board the aircraft were killed in the crash, which makes the crash the deadliest air disaster in Pennsylvania's history.

In it's arrival phase approaching Pittsburgh, Flight 427 was sequenced behind Delta Airlines Flight 1083, a Boeing 727-200, at no time was Flight 427 closer than 4.1 miles (6.6 kilometres) to Delta 1083, according to radar data, Flight 427 was on approach at 6,000 feet of altitude, at flaps 1 configuration and at approximately 190 knots (350 kilometres per hour), at 19:02:57pm local time, the plane entered the wake turbulence of Delta 1083, and three sudden thumps, clicking sounds and a louder thump occurred on the plane, after which the 737 began to bank and roll to the left, the autopilot disconnected, the First Officer stomped on the rudder pedal and held it there for the remainder of the flight, unaware that the rudder reversed hard to the left, as the plane is heading and bank angle slewed dramatically to the left, the crew rolled their yokes to the right and pulled back on the elevators to counter the decreasing pitch angle, as the plane entered an aerodynamic stall, because of the wings high angle of attack, seconds before impact while pitched 80 degrees nose down and banked 60 degrees left while travelling at approximately 330 miles per hour (480 kilometre per hour), the 737 slammed into the ground and exploded at 19:03:25pm local time in Hopewell Township, Beaver County near Aliquippa, the plane crashed approximately 28 seconds after it encountered the wake turbulence.

The summary of the crash was Loss of control due to rudder hardover.
