Lo'ak paced in front of the oak door. His hands were sweating while holding the many papers. He took a deep breath before knocking, and when he went inside Tonowari looked at him with a calm expression.
"Ah, Lo'ak, to what do I owe this pleasure?"
"I wanted to talk to you sir, about...well, everything." He sighed taking a seat.
"Go ahead, then." He nodded. "What do you have there?"
"These are my letters of recommendation, Sir." He handed them to him. "Mister Fäe has agreed to be my sponsor, therefore he will pay for my first year at the academy, and I have been working for all these people to earn enough to pay the rest."
"Mmm, I see..." Tonowari hummed keeping himself neutral before the situation.
"I also intend to pay you back. You were our biggest supporter when It came to my brother's health, and I promise to pay you for everything."
"Right, right..." He nodded again, still looking at the letters. "And, may I know why you have decided to bring all of this to my attention?"
"...I know things did not go as you initially planned. That...perhaps you wished something different for Tsireya. A better life, with a better husband."
"Well, don't you think so too?"
"...Yes, Sir." Lo'ak lowered his head for a moment, a little embarrassed.
"Then, why keep pursuing her?" He spoke without changing his expression, though a smile threatened to escape him.
"Because I love her." He answered as if it was a fact of common knowledge. "And because I love her, I'm trying to be that better husband, the one she deserves. I don't have much now, and that is why we will not marry until we can finally have a home of our own, where we can live the life that she wants, the one that she deserves."
"And what is it that you want?"
"...Pardon?"
"You speak of giving my daughter the moon and the stars, but what do you wish in return? What are your expectations for the life you will have with Tsireya?"
"Happiness."
"However, that is not something that can be easily archived. Even the people who love each other dearly cannot claim that they have it secured."
"Yes, I know." He chuckled slightly, which took Tonowari by surprise. "I've seen my parents. Their marriage is...was..." He cleared his throat feeling a little choked up. "Their marriage was something I always envied, because even after so much struggle, and having to spend almost a decade apart due to the war, their love never wavered. Love was what kept them going...what kept them happy. I hope to achieve the same thing."
"I see..." He sighed, nodding slowly and hiding his smile behind his interlocked hands. "And do you hope for a family?"
"As long as she does."
"And if she doesn't?"
"Although she had made her wishes to be heard, even if she wakes up one day and decides that she never wants to be a mother, I shall be happy. Besides, we will be more than content dotting in our many nephews and nieces."
"Well then..." He made a pause. "But if you do, I hope the child is not a girl."
"...I don't think I understand." Lo'ak frowned. He knew people usually preferred sons over daughters because they were able to carry the family name, but wasn't saying that too much?
"Think about it." He leaned back on his chair. "Your daughter, who we can only hope takes after her lovely mother, grows up to be delightful in every way you can think of. Your beloved little girl who suddenly grows up right in front of your eyes, and as soon as she turns of age she is whisked away by a thief who wants to marry her without even asking her father." He sighed. "I do fear for your nerves."
