"It's about your father" I state, I see her gulp and her posture changes. "What about him?" She asks cautiously and I take a deep breath preparing myself.
"I was hesitant to tell you this because I didn't have all the information. Now that I have enough, I'm still not that eager but I don't have much of a choice" I sigh and she nods, leaning back to be more comfortable. "Your father is Damascus, I'm not sure if you've heard of him. Essentially he's a demon but it's much much more than that" I start.
Her mouth drops open slightly, she bites her lip looking confused. "A curse was placed on him because of his wrath in the past. My best assumption based on what I've gathered is that he was fighting for you. Maybe custody or something like that but he took it very seriously. He caused chaos and inflicted irreparable damage on the minds of the citizens" I explain.
The more I tell the more interested she is but I can tell she's conflicted. "A curse was placed to basically sedate him. His memories wiped so he has no recollection of what he did or why he did it. There are two ways to break this curse: if the caster dies or most importantly if he gains knowledge of you" I finish.
"Shit... ok. Where is he now?" she asks, "I was told he's at the edge of the earth. More accurately on the very border of the realm" I answer. "So the curse hasn't been lifted yet? This is just precautionary" she assumes, "precisely" I reply. "But you think it's very likely" she continues, "I'm 85% certain it's going to happen" I claim.
"Do you know anything else? I mean if I'm going to be fighting my father I feel like I should know a bit more" she prompts, "well, what do you wanna know? There's what I gathered through magic and asking around, then there's the books" I state. "How powerful is he?" she asks softly, "Well let's say he could co-rule hell" I reply.
"Wow... alright. So really bad person" she sighs and plays with her fingers. "Hey, it's not your fault. None of us get to choose our parents, unfortunately. Just because he's your father doesn't make you a bad person. I think you're pretty great" I smirk and she just rolls her eyes. I look down realizing I'd taken her hand in my own so I start to pull away.
She pulls me back and holds my hand tighter, looking in my eyes. "Can you... tell me about your parents?" she asks nervously, "yeah. I'm not really sure where to start though" I chuckle. "Anywhere" she shrugs, her thumb unconsciously running over my hand and playing with my rings.
"I knew my father, but he didn't care enough to be around. I say 'knew' but I'm not really sure if he's dead or not" I say thinking out loud, "I'm sorry" she offers. "Don't be. I met him and let me tell you, I wish I didn't. He was an asshole" I roll my eyes, "guess it's better not to know sometimes" she utters.
"True" I sigh, "and your mom..." she prompts making me roll my eyes. "That one is much more complicated" I say, "I have time" she smiles softly. "She was a cunt. I hated her, and yet I still loved her. I guess it's something about that mother-daughter bond I longed for" I recall, "she passed away?" she asks and I wave my hand in a so-so motion.
"This is definitely gonna look bad but... I basically killed her. Not to make excuses but she did try to kill me first. I didn't mean to do it, it just happened" I grimace, "how did you..." she stops herself. "I umm... I absorbed her soul" I answer, "you ate her?" she asks confused and it makes me giggle.
"No, not like that. Although it is possible within the power to do that, I never did. It feels... weird, kinda does feel like I'd be eating them. I contained her soul in an item instead, it just went to the nearest object" I explain, "you still have it?" she asks and I pull at the necklace around my neck.
"I wear it everyday" I mutter, twirling it around in my fingers. "Wow... I know it's not a competition but I think you win" she chuckles and I laugh too. "So I've gotta fight my dad" she sighs after a few minutes of silence, "looks like it, honey" I reply. "Well we all do I guess" she adds, "yep. We're all with you" I say squeezing her hand.
"Thank you... for everything" she utters, "no need" I whisper. "You're like my best friend, you know? Even though we haven't known each other for long. I wanted to ask actually... if you'd be my right hand? I don't have one and it's kind of traditional" she mumbles. "Whatever you need" I answer, "it's a formality, really. Like an understudy" she explains.
"Sounds good to me" I voice, "alrighty. I should get back to work now..." she sighs. "You could join me" she adds shyly, "I'd love to" I reply with a grin. "Let's go" she whispers, reaching out and taking my hand. I grip hers firmly, prepared to follow her anywhere.
